"Ah yes, this is legal proof."

German federal agencies, 2023.

@Natanox I forgot the name, but someone made a tool that converts a PDF document into a PDF document that looks like it was printed and then scanned, to get it accepted by German authorities.

@fell @Natanox there's two tools I know and I think both are called variations of "look scanned". One is at lookscanned.io 😊

@fell @Natanox I used one of those tools to get around a wet signature requirement

@fell @Natanox It should also make it look like it’s been faxed several times and someone spilled coffee all over the page.

@AbyssCannonball @Natanox I just tried to find it, but there is actually many tools out there now. I can't remember which one it was.

But it would be interesting to see how far this can be taken. I'm imagining a UI that's basically just a file browser button and a big list of checkboxes, like: "use fax encoding", "add coffee stains", "add cat hair", "two-way fold", "three-way fold", "add punch holes", "recycled paper texture", "scribbles that look like someone needed to test a pen", ...

@fell @Natanox Apart from the already mentioned lookscanned.io (https://github.com/rwv/lookscanned.io) what about using a simple bash script: https://gist.github.com/andyrbell/25c8632e15d17c83a54602f6acde2724

@Jakra Then Open-Source tools and popular, modern Linux systems all have it. It's the systems our federal agencies use, as well as Microsoft Windows, that do not offer simple solutions.

We should REALLY push for more trained professionals in politics. I think the main problem why shit ain't moving are our politicians not having even a remote understanding of the technology, constantly bringing up ideas (often written lobbyists) that are incompatible to either tech or privacy laws. Or both.
