It's funny seeing people ping pong back and forth between Masto and Bluesky based on where they last got yelled at.

@inquiline I feel like this boost you made ("It's funny seeing people ping pong back and forth between Masto and Bluesky based on where they last got yelled at.") could have applied to Indymedia listservs (or websites, for that matter) some two decades ago.

@misc was this about Taylor Lorenz

@misc do they overlap in capabilities, uses, etc? Any reason why having both? Disclaimer: I’d read about months ago but have not checked it out recently

@leoboulton Mastodon is far and away ahead on features, but Bluesky hasn't yet implemented federation, and didn't have a cantankerous pre-existing community, so the Twitter exodus that went there had an easier time making themselves at home. It's a different vibe and there are specific people you'll only find there, and communities you'll find better represented - I can't think of another reason to prefer it.

Thank you, @misc I’m really enjoying here, and I attribute it heavily to ActivityPub and federation. I may take a peek at Bluesky next year then. But I can’t imagine it making me open yet another account somewhere unless it has federation and aggregate uses for me.
