Texas is banning Kate Cox from getting a life saving abortion—claiming her fetus has rights.
Simultaneously Texas is fighting a lawsuit by a prison guard who was 7 mo pregnant, had pains, was denied a break, & the fetus was stillborn—arguing a fetus has no rights.
It was Never about life. It was always about control of women.
@QasimRashid If they cared about children, they'd fix their bogus foster care system and stop glorifying child beating. Oh, I mean, 'corporal punishment.'
And that goes for any anti-abortion state. The quality of the foster care system is abhorrent. Not to mention literally... any system that is supposed to help children? I still remember giving my peers my free lunches because they weren't broke enough to qualify for free lunches, but couldn't afford to bring their own.
Important to point out, the fetus that they are forcing the woman to keep is expected to be stillborn or die within weeks of birth, meaning she risks major health complications, including her own death, if she tries to bring the child to term, where it has only a tiny chance at life, if any.
@QasimRashid Appears the GOP are not concerned at all about losing their congressional positions. Must be planning the greatest of all treasonous actions to keep their jobs when elections are due.
Working on it, but the GOP in Texas has had their finger on the scale for quite some time now. The election system in Texas is wholly corrupt, and it's going to take a massive movement by the populace-- or federal intervention-- to break the thieves' stranglehold. Abbott, Patrick and Paxton are mobsters.
@QasimRashid Are women second class citizens? Are they property. If a state can control her body, can it control the rest? Do women have rights if they are property? Maybe SCOTUS will say yes. Do not say it can not happen in the US. Means that all women are property and not free.
@QasimRashid@NBAnthony2k according to Texas law, if she leaves the state and gets an abortion, then anyone who knows that she got an abortion is entitled to sue her for $10k. (It isn’t clear to me whether there’s a limit to the number of people who can sue for $10k each.) So it’s bankruptcy for her.
I vaguely remember that there is liability for anyone who helps her in any way. Including an Uber driver, for example.
@QasimRashid a non viable fetus has non viable rights. If I were at work and having a medical issue, I would not ask permission to clock out. I would TELL them I am going to see the Dr.
