That feeling when you are running a bit late so you rush to your bus stop to find the one bus that services your route passing by your stop several minutes early, and you left your bike at home that day. Oops! Luckily I have other options than a very long hike back, but I wish we weren't in such a chicken/egg problem of ridership/service so my metro could offer more than one a day per direction hit times on more routes (and more routes in general).

LA folks, what’s a good place to wait for 2 hours or so, so that I can easily get to a train or bus at Union Station around 11pm on a Sat night? Like a place with food preferably. Where I can sit with my bags. Play a game on my Switch while waiting. No alcohol, tho I am fine with places with alcohol.

@skinnylatte I would take the A-Line at Union station station to Little Tokyo and hang out at a place there for a little bit.

It's a super walkable area around the Metro stop(it is little tokyo after all)

Theres a bunch little Ramen bars and stuff. Its pretty lovely. Its not crazy busy at that time, but also not completely empty usually. I think the last train back to Union station would be at like 12:45 am ish.

Its crazy that just laid off their entire SuperCharger team.

It is REALLY REALLY difficult to justify buying another vehicle that isnt a Tesla, solely because you're shooting yourself in the foot wrt charging. Tesla chargers are just miles better, more convenient and more numerous.

If that advantage is gone, I don't really see how Tesla is going to compete.

So Fox News, using info from the Tax Foundation, are claiming that when the Trump Tax cuts end that now households will be having an onerous tax burden at a time that households are struggling to meet ends with rising costs.

Now, it is true that the tax cuts will raise all rates above the first bracket but the Tax Foundation’s numbers don’t add up.

They claim that getting rid of the tax cuts will over complicate things but their own calculator is different!

I’m looking at 2 examples here

Less than half [of Americans] think electric cars are better for the climate. Pretty damning, considering there is strong consensus that EVs have a lower carbon footprint (even when the electricity mix is pretty heavy in coal).3 Electric cars are certainly better for the climate in the United States.

The @sltrib in a story today linked to this HHS factsheet about IVF. I had no idea that in several states IVF accounts for a full 5% of births. Also the correlations with wealth and political party are interesting.

ArrLAMetro is coming to a boiling point over safety after the latest stabbing/murder.

Lots of anger over Metro's refusal to keep dangerous people off the trains and buses.

And lots of people saying there's nothing Metro can even do so we just got to accept it.

Pretty wild conversations happening.

One of my least favorite reply guys on social media is the “you’re just noticing this NOW?!” guy.

Yeah, man! We notice things when we notice them. If you agree, welcome me to the fucking club.

Are you the punch-clock of timely awareness or a builder of solidarity? You want a prize for noticing it first, or do you want to actually change it?

Pointing out that someone is late to the party is not what good hosts do, and just makes people less likely to try and help in the future.

@petes_bread_eqn_xls Maybe. Bartenders usually work fixed schedules so if you go the same night every month, you could be come a regular with that bartender.

Or you need to make your 1 time per month REALLY REALLY memorable.

This is a pretty cool video. TLDR:

  • Trump is in favor of a 16 week abortion ban. 94% happen by 13 weeks.
  • Kari Lake from AZ is in favor of a 24 week ban, less than 1% happen after 20 weeks and almost all are health related/exceptions.
  • Republican voters are not happy with either of those numbers.

Women's healthcare will play a massive role in this election and it is vital we get out and vote. We cannot let these nutjobs control healthcare.

That’s the number.

President Biden has cancelled $153 billion in student debt for over 4 million borrowers in spite of a GOP Supreme Court and congress trying to hurt Americans along the way

This is a huge win

It’s between a sexual predator with 91 criminal charges or one of the most effective presidents of the modern era

And for some reason it’s a close race.

How did China enforce the One Child Policy:

The policy was enforced at the provincial level through contraception, abortion, and fines that were imposed based on the income of the family and other factors.

If the family was not able to pay the fee, then their child would not be able to obtain a legal document that was required in order to marry, attend state-funded schools, or to receive health care

Workers in rich countries like the U.S. only have high wages ($8/hr is high) because they exploit workers in poor countries through outsourcing where they pay them $0.50/hr.

vWorkers in rich countries aren't exploited, they're labor aristocrats.
