Another day, another influx of spam! This time they’ve moved onto mastodon.world, so we’ve temporarily limited that instance. Hopefully we’ll see some better tools/protocols to prevent these kinds of annoying DM-based spam attacks sooner than later on Mastodon.
And now it's mastodon.online. We’re all in the most annoying slow-motion game of Internet whack-a-mole conceivable. Limiting individual instances one by one reactively doesn’t feel like the right way to handle this, so I’m going to look at options for preventing DMs from new users or some other way to mitigate this annoyance.
@adam I asked a few people around who also have opted not to turn on profile search for their accounts, and we've all been unaffected so far. Which is both interesting and unfortunate.
@anniegreens Yeah... ugh. I’m also trying to better understand the various notification blocking options that might be helpful here, but they all feel a little excessive when the goal really is just “don’t spam me lol”.
