@vantablack@jwz back in the 90s I knew young women who went to Boston-area science fiction cons who would pin a sprig of broccoli to their shirts in an attempt to ward off RMS creeping on them.
@vantablack I remember my first (and last) attempt to contribute to the GNU project started and ended with rms hectoring me via email that I should call it "GNU/Linux" and not "Linux", and completely ignoring the thing I was volunteering to contribute. I gave up trying almost immediately, and never tried again.
I can only imagine what kind of sociopathy he'd have gone into if he'd been born before general-purpose computing.
@klausfiend@vantablack i remember reading somewhere that his own family was very worried about what he would turn out to be, and apparently the very much mixed bag we got in his contribution to the free software movement was really a relief.
@vantablack and he is seriously like that. My ex let him stay at our house a few years back and he was whining about the tomato plants outside the window.
@jens@vantablack actually, now I really want this neighbourhood to exist, because pretty much all the folks I don't wanna see from the community would stay away 🤣
@grrrr_shark@vantablack A friend of mine started doing that, but her squatter commune turned out to be more leftist crypto bro than she could take. Now she's got her own plot of land somewhere in the middle of the Spanish mountains.
I can't quite do that remote, but I wouldn't mind a cluster of houses somewhere nearer to a decent train station, with some shared land around to keep plants on/RMS away. It's rather difficult to find.
