it seems the purpose of any single piece of logitech software is to prompt you to install another piece of logitech software

unifying software, logi tune, g-hub, options+???

I've lost count

@fasterthanlime I gave up buying a fancy mouse for my Mac. It’s either Anker or Apple devices.

I have a Logitech g500s that won’t die but for which there is no configuration software available anymore for the Mac.

@fasterthanlime it was also lovely to figure out that their "unifying receiver" is not in fact unifying, and the presenters still have their own receiver

jernej__s,

@cluosh @fasterthanlime They have several types of receivers: the dirt cheap mice and keyboards use something custom; old ones use unifying (you can recognise them by the star logo; higher-end ones also support bluetooth), new ones use bolt (and as far as I can see, everything that supports bolt also supports bluetooth).

@fasterthanlime Logitech is a bloatware company, not a hardware company.

@rabc @fasterthanlime yeah, if goes deeper: they only sell hardware as an excuse to get you to install software

@fasterthanlime I really enjoy when all my macros and keybindings for my gaming mouse fail mid game because their bloated ghub or whatever is in an infinite boot load cycle. That coupling should never be allowed.

@fasterthanlime I'm not happy that my horrible experience with Bluetooth mice means that Logitech mice w/ multi receiver support is preferable :(...

jernej__s,

@cr1901 @fasterthanlime Yeah, Logitech somehow seems to be the only one that knows how to make bluetooth mice that don't randomly disconnect, and their BT keyboards are the only ones I found so far that buffer keypresses if you start using them after the keyboard went to sleep, and it's taking a second to reconnect (this single feature makes a whole world of difference, especially when unlocking the computer).

OTOH, I've only ever installed their software on one machine, and only had it run long enough to set the glide wheel options, and despite this everything works well enough.
