Going to take a chance on a writer that I’ve only read in collaboration w/ other writers. Hope it’s a good read.

@Binder If the satire doesn't fully work for you here, I will beg you start in another place, but I have confidence in this starting place.

@Binder oh hi, lol

I just finished this last night. Enjoy the silliness. I skipped ahead a few books for the next read, to Mort, and even that short hop & only a few chapters in, I can tell he refined his style a decent amount.

It's interesting, too, how internet reviews tell the same story I got from ppl on here: the first ~3-5 books are a little weaker, then he finds his stride and things even out a lot more? Guess we'll see.

@Binder I would start with the first of the Night Watch books, as I think the Rincewind books are his weakest, but it's a decent send-up of the genre.

wood5y,

@danlyke @Binder The Watch books are great. I also have a soft spot for the Lancre witches.

Excellent choice as a 2nd starting point, for all the reasons.

EMMV

hamishtpb,

@Binder I am like that too - I hate being told what I will like, even when it is true. I didn't get into Pratchett until the early 2000s.

Now I am a complete "Discworld" head.

soonleenz,

@hamishtpb @Binder I was that way with the Lois McMaster Bujold Vorkosigan saga (which I adore). I was also put off by the garish covers. Then when I finally started reading them, I kicked myself for being so silly & missing out for so long.

Fanfalla,

@Binder I haven't read the book, but the animated film based on this book is excellent. :neofox_happy:

@Binder A special thing about Diskworld is that you get to see a good writer turn into an amazing writer over the course of his books.

@Binder Terry Prattchett is absolutely amazing, but when I started reading the Discworld novels again, I noticed that the early ones are nowhere near as good as the later ones.

If you find this one disappointing, skip ahead a bit. Even Terry himself later said to disregard the first few books.

glassresistor,

@ashtardeza @Binder the witches series by far the best

@Binder Highly entertaining. But that's my opinion.
