Oh, by the way, since the optimisations I made on the bundle size, it now takes ~3.61 seconds to download and install Kitten¹ on my machine and ~1 second to update it (the initial install takes longer as Kitten downloads its own Node.js runtime and that takes the bulk of the time).

Every second you don’t spend waiting for something is a second you can spend doing something else 🤓

@aral When I was first learning about computer programming in school, back in the 1980s, one of the main requirements in most of the exercises was that the program's response to the user should appear instantaneous. This was back in the days where offline batch-processing was still a thing but even now I think this should still apply to most user experiences.

    Any gurus around? Why, when I post a link to a video that is not on my local instance are people getting a pop-up and redirected? I thought we were all Fediverse and you can watch any video from anywhere?

    Is it a setting at my end, or something at the other end? Am I doing something wrong?

    @RickiTarr The Thick of It, probably a low-hanging fruit but every major character in that show is absolutely despicable. Maybe Robyn gets a pass but she is a bit dim and useless still.

    I haven’t yet figured out my New Year’s resolutions. Primarily because I have a pre-order in for the Framework 16, so my personal daily driver machine screen size will change in a few months, and I don’t know what I’ll eventually decide on. But this change in my life will impact me a lot, and I’m sure you’ll be going on this journey with me. 2024 will be a big year, three inches bigger.

    Is there a way to amalgamate all your traffic and have it sent to one account. e.g. Comments on your PeerTube account get sent to your microblog server address as well?

    Thinking about how Folks held on to Twitter and Facebook for so long. I kinda feel that the folks who want mastodon/fedi to replace those networks perhaps didn't realise that for some of us, we'd already moved several times.

    Once you've moved on from your first one emotionally it's easier.
