Something I've noticed a lot lately, is that especially Boomer women, but honestly, women in general, don't seem to ask for what they want or need in a direct way. I notice this a lot with my Mom and her friends. Instead of just asking for what they need directly they tell a story, to ask in a roundabout way. For instance, my Mom needed help this morning, and Instead of just saying, "Hey, I dropped my remote, can you pick it up for me?" She tells a one minute story about what happened, no ask, and eventually I get the point, and then suggest that I come pick it up. Or if one of her friends wants to do something like have a birthday party for a friend, they don't say "We should have a party!" They say, It's Sarah's Birthday coming up, you know she likes surprises, what does everyone think we should do?"

I often wonder if this is why older people think younger women are rude and demanding, because younger people often just ask for what they want and need in a more direct way. But also it's probably just straight up sexism, because men are supposed to make decisions, and women are supposed to make suggestions.

What do you all think? Is this just me? Have you experienced something similar?

@RickiTarr It's not just you. My Step Mom used to tell me that if you're too direct or demanding it makes you seem rude or too brash and neither of those traits is a part of being a good woman.

Q: Why does it seem like everything has to be woke now? Even our scientists?! It never used to be that way! Why does it seem like these days, even higher education has to think about race, when it didn't before?

A: Higher education, including STEM, did think about race before. That history has just been hidden from you. Because racism.

The fact that many COVID deaths were from blood clots and organ shutdowns should have been a clue to the possible long-term effects of this virus. I read the research on this before COVID-19 was even declared a pandemic. And I'm just an average science geek. China knew that COVID wasn't just another flu. How come Westerners don't know anything?

@Frances_Larina @Scienceisnotopinions I hate how right you are. Folks pretend that the pandemic is over and the CDC largely backs this up, like the common refrain "COVID is just like the flu now" and "we don't have to mask anymore" are the norm. I never stopped masking and I probably never will.

NYS DoH just sent a reminder that healthcare workers are required to wear a mask if they haven't gotten their flu shot.

It makes zero sense they are ignoring COVID and not requiring masks for everyone. COVID levels are high, and you can still spread it if you are vaccinated.

This short video from FD Signifier is a banger and an excellent concise explanation on why what party you vote for doesn't matter as much as you would hope, but the real root of a lot of systemic issues being capitalism. Capitalism needs to be dismantled and I'm hoping sharing this around and encouraging others to do so will make more folks understand.

    @br00t4c Wow, the teacher was such a bitch in this situation and, arguably ; as a white person, I'm not generally confident in saying what is or isn't racist, but this teacher's rude treatment of this Mom is an insensitive and accidental at best and straight up racist at worst. Like the article says, this could've been an excellent opportunity to educate the other kids about a different culture and to defend one of her students, but instead she was shitty to the Mom.

    As a reminder, no corporate algorithm here means you don’t need to disguise your words.

    Twitter can be Twitter, Trump can be Trump, Musk can be Musk, etc. Using plain language is both clearer for readers than code words AND means people can set up more useable filters to control their own experience.
