I'm curious to see Israel's definition of "combatant". I'd put money on it being starkly different to the one in my dictionary.
Guardian: "Reuters reports that Israel claims its forces have killed about 9,000 Palestinian combatants in Gaza since 7 October, and that 221 of its own soldiers have been killed in the fighting."
@fkamiah17 didn't the US count ever male older than the age of 12 automatically as terrorist, when they assessed the results of drone strikes in Afghanistan? This reduced the reported collateral damage significantly. After all it is not white people being killed, so there is no need to have a sophisticated way to measure it. I guess Israel just learned from their big brother.

@Wen Seems implausible when you do the maths, doesn't it? At the time of writing (in the news, not this post), the death toll in Gaza - by conservative rounded up figures - was 70% women and children, and overall 26,000 - making the 9k total somewhat difficult to believe, particularly when you take into account UN and other aid workers, medical staff and journalists who are included in the figures.
@Wen And there's that, of course. I'd have a little more hope about the population at large being aware of the reality, if only because of the steadfastly high percentage of them who want a ceasefire.
