I really don't get it. I'm on a plane stuck on the ground due to an air traffic control hold. It's a sealed tube with a hundred people sharing air, no filtration (only available in the air), and dozens are coughing, sniffing and sneezing. My wife and i are the only ones masked. How much denial must one feel to risk getting sick with #COVID19 or anything else in these conditions? Seriously, how hard is to #WearAMask while sitting quietly in at airline seat on a packed plane?
@augieray This is why I no longer want to shake hands with people. If they can’t wear a mask to save their lives, they almost certainly haven’t been washing their hands in the bathroom all these years.
@augieray the thing I don't get about anti-masking in general is: you're traveling, either for work or vacation. Why risk getting sick? Even a simple cold can make you miserable. It boggles the mind that people won't take the simplest precautions to make their trip more enjoyable in the long run.
@augieray Emotional reasoning. Foreign nationals here did this after the Fukushima disaster. People without close ties here left because in their mind the whole country had become radioactive. People with spouses and/or families told themselves the radiation was harmless, and happily stayed at home acting like nothing had happened. A wave of radiation swept about a fifth of the country. The rational thing to do was travel away from it for a week or so, but hardly anyone did that.
@augieray I hope you both don't catch something. You are protected with your mask, but only so far. I imagine you will eventually have to eat and drink during that long flight.
@augieray ...they really should have doors open till before they have to move off ground if having to sit...have sat for an hour and that was many years ago in a large airport... with a 3 month old BABY for a 4 hr. Flight...I could smell fear ! 😜😅
@augieray why haven't governments mandated that planes need to run their filtration during boarding and deplaning? Such a simple change would prevent so many infections
@augieray I was on a flight to visit family earlier this year and it was the same thing, I think I was the only person wearing a mask. I didn't like it.
@augieray For one thing I bet a lot of people don't have a mask with them - if airlines put individually packaged masks in the seat pocket, I bet some people might use them in light of the hacking you are hearing.
@augieray what’s so hard to understand about social pressure to conform? (If I were on that flight there’d be 3 people in N95s, but nothing about the current, near-universal head-in-the-sand approach to COVID is the least bit surprising or confusing.) #whistlingPastTheGraveyard
