... but even before fully implementing Fediverse interoperability in they're already talking openly about changing its protocols to add features like monetization. 🤔

For instance, fediverse advocate and co-editor of ActivityPub Evan Prodromou created a paid Mastodon account (@evanplus) that users could subscribe to for $5 per month to gain access. If he’s on board with paid content, surely others would follow. Cottle agreed that the model could work with the fediverse, too. He additionally suggested there are ways the fediverse could monetize beyond donations, which is what often powers various efforts today, like Mastodon. Cottle said someone might even make a fediverse experience that consumers would pay for, the way some fediverse client apps are paid today.

@adnan I'm a big fan. The way it's set up here means I end up bookmarking a load of stuff to preserve, which then gets in the way of other things I bookmark to read or reply to, but it's still a vast improvement on the birdsite. I'd be really reluctant now to move to any service that didn't offer automatic deletion. Wish you could set it to remove old favourites, too.

I thought had a piece published somewhere in English that did the rounds here and elsewhere when she was forced to leave a few months ago, but I can't find it at all now. Does anyone else remember it?

(I can find lots of other stories talking about her departure, some with quotes from a statement she released, but what I thought I saw was a story, rather than a statement—though links to the statement also gratefully received!)🙏🧡

@davidaugust Mr. Stonekettle is very good at posting clout-thirsty takes. But when examined more closely, they quickly disintegrate into the tangle of fallacies they truly are. No one seems to have asked Biden to do any of the things Stonekettle's post asserts. They just don't want Biden to amplify the horrendous and nonsensical distortion that saying killing over 30,000 civilians is wrong is "anti-Semitism." Funnily enough, take boy didn't address that part.

What would happen if we all just stopped paying, I mean I stop paying rent my (nice) landlady stops paying loans et al et al. What would they (vanguard or whoever) actually do? Send armies (=ourselves) to force people to pay for their imaginary wealth?

All it would take would be a little impossible unity of non-doing something to take down capitalism in a few days. That's how close we are.

@ncrav They'd probably just evict you. I think withdrawing labour is more powerful (although I have nothing to support that, but it does appear to have worked through the ages providing its organised well and has broad support).

@mike Hi there! I just started trying to watch/listen to your podcast on flipboard.video and the only resolution options it gives me are 720p or "auto". A lot of people are on metered data — I always have to turn down video resolution on my phone to 480p or 360p. Is there any way one of these lower resolution options could be added? An hour long video at 720p is a big chunk of data.
