SwiftOnSecurity,

@brettshavers post here

brettshavers,

I just peer-reviewed a forensic analysis in a case.

The suspect mailed a package with a hidden Apple AirTag in it to a victim's old home address.

The package was forwarded to her new (and formerly safe) address....

Might be good to warn DV victims of unexpected mail.

womble,

@kfet @brettshavers I don't see how. By the time the victim is able to detect that there is a tracker, the abuser has already gotten the information they want ( the victim's location).

@womble @kfet @brettshavers

In these cases get forwarded packages held at postoffice/PO-box?

@knud That would still reveal a new city.

@brettshavers
Not having an address is a pain (I live on a boat).

It seems having one can be even worse.

I didn't realize that a package would be forwarded. I'm not sure how I could protect myself from this.

The good news is that my abuser probably isn't sufficiently tech savvy to do something like this. She has trouble setting up a Smart TV.

@janetlogan @brettshavers @SwiftOnSecurity I assume in that case the person set it up with the post office. I remember being annoyed we would still get mail for the previous owner of our house. Then I realized they probably didn't want all this crap.

peltast,

@brettshavers @SwiftOnSecurity I mean, if the person has set up mail forwarding with the post office, anyone can send a letter with "Return Service Requested" on it and the post office will return it to sender with the new address on it. Plus thousands of companies subscribe to an address database and get instantly notified of your new address. So, um, the tag is cunning but if you've given your sekrit address to the post office it's not sekrit anymore.

@brettshavers @SwiftOnSecurity I could see that as being the whole plot of an award-winning science fiction short story in the '80s.

brettshavers,

@resuna @SwiftOnSecurity We have been living in that movie for the past few years...

@brettshavers @SwiftOnSecurity We have been living in the future since 20 Jul 1969 at least.
