Right now there's a lot of German-language posts that are interesting for a larger audience, but no, Mastodon doesn't allow me to translate these or add context to them and share with my followers.
I feel like this is social network kindergarten.

@thomasfuchs I understand that, though quote RT "feels" higher in scale of verbal abuse, closer to exposing & canceling somebody instead of attacking their arguments "face to face" by a reply.
Anyway i'm 50/50 on this. Certainly can be used for good too.
@accela It's not (there have been studies on this)--besides it could be implemented in a way so you can't quote unlisted posts (or other restrictions).
Other platforms like Twitter and Bluesky have actually much better controls for people over who's allowed to reply than Mastodon has (and replies are the primary abuse vector on all of these).
