The exclusion of Covid in major news reporting about the global hospital and healthcare system collapse is an active choice, based either in denial or collusion, and it’s happening everywhere.

@taylorlorenz Lost a friend to "complications of covid" very recently.

@taylorlorenz The author seems to make numerous mistakes in their reasoning.

But perhaps one of their most interesting is on the immune evasion of JN.1. Yes, JN.1 was great at evading our immune systems. But it also didn't make us very sick, reduced the amount of variation in the virus and led to historically low infection counts for this time of year.

Look at wastewater numbers for the Netherlands for example where JN.1 peaked early: https://coronadashboard.rijksoverheid.nl/landelijk/rioolwater

@taylorlorenz Completely on point, every single word of it.

The nearly universal decision to try to pretend away COVID-19 is one of the stupidest things humanity has ever done. I simply can't see any way out of this that is sustainable for humanity barring some sort of serious medical tech breakthrough to somehow create a universal and fully sterilizing vaccine (which A. is almost impossible and B. people would fight against because they wouldn't understand it.)

How do we survive this?

@taylorlorenz This has to be a deliberate move. COVID has been an enormously notable subject in recent years, there's no way the news simply don't think its impact is notable enough.

@taylorlorenz I was in the hospital last month, unconscious for 6 days. I could die from a common cold (MS-related) and I was blessed with a friend who sat by my bedside as much as she could to make sure there was a mask on my face, while most of the hospital staff did not mask.

I've lost my sense of taste.
