Ginza was very interested in getting her wet food breakfast this morning. Yesterday was the day of her least favorite can of wet food from the box of 32, so she didn't eat as much of that.

I only slept 8 or 9 hours, but it was a solid and deep 8 or 9 hours.

Now that Ginza has finally satisfied her want for wet food, she's settling down to snooze and dream while she digests the happiness of gravy in the belly.

    She tends to only lick gravy and pick at the turkey dinner in gravy. She much prefers the chicken meals from the poultry pack.

    At first Ginza never showed much pickiness, but she seems to be developing towards that these days.

    I just got showered.

    Feel good enough I hope to do a few things today, but still be careful and try to make sure I leave spoons in the drawer.

    omg omg omg a story so ADHD, autistic, and packrattish it's hard to believe, even for me, but I'm about to watch this on a VHS tape I had never opened.

    oh gods I'm so jealous of Helena Bonham Carter's exquisite mane of hair.

    To show that yes indeed an old unopened VHS tape of A Room With A View is now playing, here's a shot of it playing onto the one flat screen TV I've bought in life over 10 years ago,

    I've almost entirely forgotten it, except for the hilarity of the men going bathing together in the nude scene.

    Yesterday I was frustrated some when I found the forgotten VHS tape because I was unable to locate a cable to connect the VCR to the TV. So I invested energy today in going to Walmart and finding a suitable cable to connect the two devices.

    And now here it is playing, it's probably been in my forgotten possession for at least a quarter century.

    A bit of unexpected joy wrought by the chaos of my life.

    funny thing is how a lot of people myself believed that the arrival of the digital age would result in almost infinite and forever preservation, but instead we're finding out that it might have an entirely opposing effect of us losing so much in the way of records and history keeping.

    seems I have 5 VHS tapes, it's an odd assortment. 2 classic movies in the forms of A Room With A View and Enter the Dragon and three other movies.

    But right now I've put in Jackie Chan's Rumble In The Bronx to let it play.

    You almost have to feel sympathy for Cecil, typecast into the role of being the metaphorical symbol of how much English society of that time could turn a man into such a helpless avatar of polite stodginess.

    IzabelaKaramia,

    good gods Julian Sands was a gorgeous man when they filmed A Room With A View. Absolutely delicious to watch during the nude bathing scene.

    IzabelaKaramia,
    @IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

    RIP, Mr Julian Sands. You were so incredibly delightful in many ways in the film A Room With A View. Peak delightful was seeing you in this scene.

    @IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

    Of course later on, I shall attend to finding out what might be on the unlabeled VHS tape that has been sitting in the VCR slot for who knows how many years.

    IzabelaKaramia,
    @IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

    oh damn, it took me long enough to realize the amazing synchronicity of watching a movie with a character named George Emerson and how the flatscreen TV is an Emerson brand TV.

    IzabelaKaramia,
    @IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

    Quite enjoyed watching A Room With A View again. I can much better appreciate the subtleties of the storytelling 30 years later. Also delightful that it's a happy ending movie.

    Then tried the unlabeled videotape but it seems that it is an unused blank tape. So no surprises to unearth from it.

    IzabelaKaramia,
    @IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

    Yikes that was a silly brain fart, hopefully things will be OK and I only lose time because of it.

    IzabelaKaramia,
    @IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

    okay, I lost time because of the brain fart, but the computer is okay and this old rig should run a little smoother and faster because I've put in a scavenged video card. Before getting this card installed, the computer was using the motherboard's memory and cpu to process video. Now video will use the card's GPU and its memory and let the CPU focus on crunching non-display related calculations.

    Really should have thought of doing this long ago, but it never occurred to me.

    Already I can see the computer doing smoother task switching.

    Let's see what happens if I start watching videos on Youtube.

    Enough of boring toots about squeezing better performance out of an old old computer, here's a picture of Ginza having a good afternoon snooze.

    IzabelaKaramia,
    @IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

    the excitement of achieving a couple of rewarding fun tasks along with a few other less than fun tasks is catching up with me and I can tell that the tired feeling bordering on exhausted is taking over

    Also said goodbye to an object that's been part of my life for maybe 40 years and that affects me emotionally and thinking of memories that link to it

    my weird trait about watching Return of the King is that I never finish the movie because for me the most climatic and best moment is when Eowyn slays the Witch King. The rest of the movie just kinda drops off after that, imo.

    IzabelaKaramia,
    @IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

    Ate dinner and that put enough dishes in the dishwasher that I've started it running. Goal from here on out is to let the mind wind down and hopefully be able to fall asleep quickly later on when I get in bed, get a good night's sleep going into the workweek ahead.

    ROTK is playing on the dvd player and tv, two items which have been set aside from me using them for over 5 years maybe? I'm not watching closely, just letting it play along until we reach the battle scenes and when

    IzabelaKaramia,
    @IzabelaKaramia@writing.exchange avatar

    Eowyn reveals herself to the Witch King, "I am no man!" and then takes care of the task that no man could take care of.

    Somehow I find it pleasing to hear the soundtrack music, dialogue, and sound effects like galloping horses going on in the background. Maybe tomorrow I'll set up the tv and dvd player out near my work computer.

    I didn't like some of the deviations from the books, but felt they were understandable enough in the need to compress the story down. I think The Two Towers was the worst in the liberties taken with deviations though and is the weakest of the three movies.

    IMO, ROTK stands as a movie that will be considered a classic in the years to come.
