I remember in 2009 when the public option and Medicare expansion fell down and died. Lots of people every day since died who might have lived. Remembering them and their families this morning.

Biden promised a public option in 2020. is still popular, even among Republicans. anybody remember ? many more Dems (in addition to all Republicans afaik) are to blame for this than just Lieberman.

and what really sucks is the strategy of still voting Dem where it matters makes sense, no matter how many times they side with donors and people die, go bankrupt and our economy remains less competitive. kill the duopoly.

@wjmaggos @JuliusGoat @shansterable Name them. And when they die and are being beatified by the press, we shall shame them as well. No Dem was more outspoken against ACA than Lieberman. He shouted “Death Panels!” At every gathering, into every camera. Dilute this as you will, for reasons of your own, but we remember.

I don't mean to dilute this. I hated the man. But I also don't want Dems to focus their anger on individuals instead of a system that facilitates these sellouts. There will always be a new asshole to take their place for the right price. They'll say whatever necessary in public during primaries to get votes, while saying the opposite in private to donors. And once that's over. it will never be the right time to challenge the establishment.

@wjmaggos @Catawu @JuliusGoat The timing of Lieberman's betrayals were significantly stronger. At the time we had a paper super majority (caveats apply) in Congress and the Senate.

Biden did not have that.

@DuncanWatson @JuliusGoat @Catawu

what we always have is a very divided govt and a lack of leadership. most politicians afraid to honestly take stands they believe in and defend them despite party or donor pressure. you focus on Lieberman and ACA instead of all those who call themselves Dems (and still want you to believe that means they care about working people) but won't push simple and popular proposals like start Medicare at 50. they have you thinking like a politician, not a citizen.

@wjmaggos @JuliusGoat @Catawu So just give up hope and dump all politicians into the same bucket. Sure thing sounds great. Hope you enjoy the consequences of your (in)actions

wjmaggos,

@DuncanWatson @JuliusGoat @Catawu

I did not say that. I actually said the opposite. I just trust people to hear annoying truths and still do the right thing, even if it doesn't feel as good. it's necessary even.
