Current progress: Pixelfed web vs Phanpy.

Most photos/images look really good on Pixelfed, so following pixelart hashtag could be an edge case, possibly unfair comparison, as some images can be smaller. The carousel UI is probably useless too since all of the images can fit in, but oh well 🤷‍♂️

On Phanpy, some existing features are preserved for this media-first UI including followed hashtag indicator and 'ALT' badge.

Now deployed on #PhanpySocialDev (dev.phanpy.social). Media-first UI experience only kicks in for #Pixelfed account log-ins. Basic features work, except:

• Local and Federated timeline show the same thing
• Trending, Bookmarks, Reply, Lists, and Filters don't work
• Notifications page showing duplicate notifications

The rest needs more testing 🙏, though I'm not sure how much feature-detection can be done to hide unsupported features.

@cheeaun Does the UI change based on the platform you’re connected to? Or a mode you can switch between on any type, even Mastodon.

@box464 trying to trigger it based on platform but seems like non-media posts still appear in some cases, so will need to combine both somehow 🫠

@box464 oh I mean, both media and non-media posts are in the same timeline. Not toggling either one but showing both types at the same time.

Pixelfed's Mastodon compat layer API (not Pixelfed's own API) seems to filter out most non-media post from the responses, but still able to show some non-media ones on e.g. hashtag page.

@cheeaun Oh you WANT both to appear in the same timeline. Oof! If anyone can figure it out, you will.

I think Sora just drops the non media posts when it flips to gallery view.

@box464 I'm not sure if it's even within expectations of Pixelfed users. Looks like this now (attached) for 'solareclipse' hashtag.

The (Mastodon compat) API returns this but I don't see these non-media posts on https://pixelfed.social/i/web/hashtag/solareclipse 🤔
