Broke the bike trailer coupler yesterday

It’s a German trailer - Croozer. And I’m in France currently. The only stockist of just this part I can find is in Freiburg 🇩🇪 and their online shop won’t send to 🇫🇷

That 🇪🇺 Single Market, eh?

So I’m going to try my luck with a Chinese generic one from Amazon instead 😡

@jon do you need a re-mailing? Ich kann's Dir aus München weiterschicken.

@RolandRides Danke, aber ich habe jetzt ein nicht Croozer original hier bestellt. Das wird hoffentlich funktionieren!

@jon UK businesses either refusing to ship to Ireland or doing so at extortionate rates was common (may still be, I no longer buy anything from the UK). The workaround was forwarding businesses such as ParcelMotel which operated storage lockers in supermarket car parks, filling stations etc for goods sent via NI. Mostly gone since Brexit.

Business opportunity or one weird company?

@jon you could try using services like Mailboxde.com

I'm using them when ordering stuff from Germany, they are based in Liberec and Zittau

@jon@gruene.social avatar

@xgebi oh AMAZING! Will consider! Thank you!

@jon You're always welcome to visit Freiburg again. 😄

@ummels If only I had known last week that this would have happened! 🙂

@jon Spare part availability is always annoying when I need to get them.
(I rarely had issues getting shipping to Germany from Belgium, Spain, France - besides high costs. Is this harder the other way around?)

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@odoruhako France strikes me as especially annoying in this regard!

EmuAGR,
@EmuAGR@owo.cafe avatar

@jon I'm tired of shopping borders within the EU. I tried to buy a CPU in Italy and my order was cancelled. "Sorry, we don't ship outside of Italy".

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@EmuAGR And I would pay a damned premium for it too!

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

I feel like I am tying myself in knots like this with bikes more and more often

My needs aren't that odd - I have a Birdy folding bike, two Croozer Cargo trailers - but I’m struggling to get the parts I want

pettter,
@pettter@mastodon.acc.umu.se avatar

@jon If only there was a robust culture of standardization on parts and interoperability.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@pettter I think the part in the Chinese generic one I bought is identical to the one in the Croozer. But I cannot work it out for sure any way except... buying one and trying! And if it fails I can use the whole Chinese coupler to replace the whole Croozer coupler in the meantime, until I am next in Germany and can get the part sent there…

Which is a lot of arsing around for 1 small part!

@jon might not be ideal solution, but if you can find something in .nl, but they won't ship, feel free to ship it to me and I'll forward it. .NL is often a good place to find bike parts for older bikes. And the esoteric.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@quixoticgeek Thanks! Although I think the central issue here is all my bikes are German brands, and the spare parts are hence more predominant there

coolesding,
@coolesding@wetdry.world avatar

@jon it would be silly to force every european company to sell in every european country

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@coolesding Sure. But it’s damned annoying when I simply have a good bike trailer in the wrong country
