Came across this again today; if you make a folder named “Developer” in your user folder on MacOS it gets a special icon (compare to the "Sites" one I usually make):
@jonathanreed I am running a custom Finder extension for each custom icon, it's bonkers to be honest. I’m working with @keir to get the process as automated as possible though. Will try and get a post up tonight about it.
@robb@keir@rafa ugh! I guessed it but thought that you guys might have figured out a way. It would be so good to be able to customize it in a easier way.
@robb@keir …pretty quickly found a limitation, though: dragging a file over the icons in the sidebar (to either drop it directly there or to open that folder and drop in a subfolder) doesn't work 😕 Not a problem for Dropbox, so I guess not inherent to this type of Finder extension?

The two things that immediately jump to mind is a) I'm on Sonoma (not sure if you are or not) and b) this is using a Custom SF Symbol rather than a standard one (not sure how it would make any difference but just trying to find differences between our setups!)
@keir@robb maybe fixed in Sonoma! I haven’t tried with custom symbols, but I’d definitely be surprised if that worked more smoothly than the built in symbols.
