I don't know if it will ever stop being cool that I can print replacement parts for things.

(I would have printed this rubber foot in black but I do not have any black TPU right now)

@MLE_online I have found the 16 hours it takes to design, and test print 31 iterations before getting it to fit - two full-time days of work, to utterly not be worth it in any way. My two printers sit in the office gathering dust.

@sboger That's certainly one experience a person might have. On the other hand, it took me maybe 40 minutes to design this part, and it printed in 15 minutes and worked on the first try.

Though milk jugs don't get made in black, this is new to me: "What are all the things we could make with recycled gallon milk jugs? I've seen people cut it into strips and feed it into a 3d printer."

@knowattitude I kind of follow what he's saying, but I don't understand why he wants to wash dirty plastic in the ocean. That's a terrible idea

@MLE_online How does the plastic compare to the other rubber ones? I suspect it makes no difference, but sometimes you want the feet to be 'sticky'.

@eryops I printed it in a rubbery filament, so it feels similar, but it's a little more slippery than the real thing

@MLE_online I’d love to do this. I work in CAD so the modeling part easy - it’s the printer part I would welcome suggestions direction on what to do / site for recommendations. :)

@Spakit my brother just got a creality ender3 and the seems to be a really excellent bargain printer. He's very happy with it

@MLE_online its really the coolest part of knowing how to do stuff in 3D CAD and having that magic machine just produce it nearly perfectly. Those little household thingies are what I find most rewarding.

MLE_online,

@timonsku yeah! I used to be pretty intimidated to try and copy more complicated parts in CAD, but then I realized that if someone designed them once, someone (me) can design them again
