Confirmed: Russia is using chemical weapons in Ukraine.

The chemical used is Chloropicrin, known as one of the poison gasses of World War I.

This is consistent with video evidence I have encountered, where white plastic containers are dropped into Ukrainian fortifications, and Ukrainians are seen rushing outside to put on gas masks.

A Telegram post alleged to be from a Russian assault group says: "Pigs start their mornings not with coffee, but with chloropicrin."

I understand, there will be scepticism when these claims come from the US.

However, Ukraine has been mentioning breaches of the Chemical Weapons Convention for months, and unlike in Iraq, this time there is video and photo evidence from the frontline.

Russian use of chemical weapons was also substantiated by The Telegraph in an article on April 6.

In March 2022, Joe Biden warned that Putin would pay a "severe price" if Russia used chemical weapons.

This is ruzzia. They don't care about any international treaty. They have used chemical weapons already in Syria -- and hardly anyone cared.

@aerofreak @randahl @DeeGLloyd The trick is to drop them sparsely enough, keep below the radar.

Teargas has been ramping up slowly. They’ll probably ramp this up slowly as well.

The west seems committed in not getting involved. As long as it’s like that, Russia will keep pushing the envelope.

There’s an old saying about Russia in Europe:

The bear tests the ground with it’s bayonette; If it’s soft it will push in, if it’s hard it will retreat.
