Today, we worked on more race stops, transitions & on improving team #paddling timing/synchronization.
I led a good warm-up before we started & was put into front near end of practice. Our coach is also training me on doing drumming/calling out paddle beats so I can go on multiple boats for races. Our first race is May 26th!
Me & para-dragonboating team only experienced a bit of upsetting moment - that had nothing to do with our practice. Our coach wanted to pull up to #DocksideGreen dock to get video & to transfer me to drummer spot in front. As we were nearing area, all of us saw 2 VicPD cops trying to tear down 2 tucked away homeless tent shelters, close to Bay St bridge.
I shouted: Leave them alone! They're not bothering anyone! Don't be cruel!
As we came back to dock, cops were leaving & didn't remove tents✊️
@somcak Yeah - one cop was super surprised, he almost tripped & fell - just stumbled clumsily though. Too bad. Was hoping he'd trip & fall into the waters 😅
@somcak I was sloppy! I got hang of it about 5 minutes in. I need more practice. I coach tends to just throw new things at me & I accept the opportunities given, learn & adapt! She's sending me some helpful vids to aid me in getting better, in between our weekly practices ❤️😊
@rothko@somcak It's because it's Canada & VicPD also knows me well 😂 I got some of their cops(2 of them) to quit, after spending 2 hrs locked up with me & me yapping to them. I'm banned from entering VicPD office because 1 CO is scared I'm gonna 'convert' more cops because I'm too 'likeable & quick witted'. Literally his words on booking me, in police garage & I'm saying - "Are those Danish biscuits in there? I like Danish biscuits! I'll pay you to grab me one." Ignoring his concerns 🤣

You can see, I started out sloppy because I've never done this before & was nervous at beginning. Further along, I got hang of things & was able to call out the #paddling beats better.
I just got good feedback from my coach, via email & feel warm n fuzzy inside 🥰 She told me that my posture & movements with paddle beats was fab & she has no concerns about my voice being too quiet - "You had a nice loud voice, I could hear you from the dock! :)"
I'll be put into front of boat to practice just this additional team role, a few more times before our official first race day 💗
I'm also now our official warm-up team leader. Teammates really enjoyed my warm-up & stretching techniques this morning. I got lots of fabulous feedback from them, after. Today was a great team practice & it boosted my self confidence & self esteem too ❤️
