@arstechnica

Why does the FTC care about Meta but not the bird site or the red site?

Or do they?

JakeBartolin,

@arstechnica "Some users have complained that their feeds are flooded with content from accounts they never followed, seemingly outnumbering posts from friends."

That's probably a feature...not a bug. If your friends aren't posting enough content to keep you on the app, the algorithm will find more to grab your attention.

Because the average Instagram user is an idiot.

@arstechnica and not one is european since we’re the ones with some strict privacy laws that Meta doesn’t like. Good for us. 😁

@arstechnica just for context, that's <1% of it's user base

httpjames,

@vitriolix Honestly, that’s still impressive… It’s definitely not easy to move 1.62 billion users lol

@httpjames yeah, it is an it isn't. the real test will be if they can sustain and retain. they had a pretty big head start to pull in power users / early adopters with a pretty streamlined process for setup and building out your core network, the key is do they get any traction with the rest of their user base.

I'd predict, for what that's worth that yes, they'll get some pretty big traction but they won't rival twitter any time soon
