A lot of people claimed that LLMs were making them 10x more productive, right? So I guess we should expect some pretty amazing things pretty soon. Can't wait to see what they all come up with.

@jplebreton Perfect

neroden,

@misc

I do believe LLMs have made the Russian troll farms which spread incoherent disinformation 10x more productive

Meme1993,

@misc I’ve been able to program an app when I can’t program

@Meme1993 Cool! What was it?

Meme1993,

@misc it’s a calculator app that I’m going to make into a customer facing ever later. You put in info related to the job and it gives your the appropriate price. It’s for my freelance work

zero times ten still results to zero

ArtisanByteCrafter,

@misc I anticipate the productivity gains in LLMs will not lead to increased output, but rather a condensing of already required output into smaller time frames, leaving more time for social activities in a day-to-day scenario.

misc,
@misc@mastodon.social avatar

@ArtisanByteCrafter Interesting. Seems like that would be a temporary effect...

ArtisanByteCrafter,

@misc I would draw a parallel to how household appliances in the 1950s were supposed to revolutionize housework. Are we really doing 5 or 10 times the housework, or are we merely having more time for other activities?

@misc There are definitely 10x more garbage AI-written posts on Medium. They should just rename it to MediLLM at this point.

misc,
@misc@mastodon.social avatar

@hrbrmstr It's really a shame. And makes me wonder why Substack, for all its flaws, including specifically an ideological laissez faire approach to content, doesn't seem overrun in the same way? Maybe they are and it's just less exposed, because you generally only see things you're subscribed to, but Medium has more algorithmic recommendations?

hrbrmstr,
@hrbrmstr@mastodon.social avatar

@misc I think part of it is that some aggregators view substack as a competitor (i.e., don't want to surface any content from it).

It's so bad on Medium that folks are trying to do the attached to prove content is genuine, (but the ones who use AI are just copy/paste-ing that into theirs too).

Cryptik,

@misc @hrbrmstr Jesse, I’ve noticed the same effect: Medium just seems filled with dreck, but I'm liking who I follow on Substack, amd keep finding new high-quality content to follow on Substack. Can't explain it, but can confirm it.

@misc using ChatGPT makes me almost as efficient at searching as I was when Google was still good.

@misc I'm so looking forward to all the outstanding bugs in all open source projects finally being closed!

@misc I’m seeing a lot more spam in FB groups, LinkedIn inmail from strangers offering lead gen or fitness services. And general spam in my email (including scammers trying to look like their are google that google didn’t detect as spam).

I’ve seen reports of a lot more spam/scam “books” in services like Kindle Unlimitted but I stopped using that years ago so haven’t confirmed - but actual authors I know who write books without AI have complained about the increase in scams

So there’s that
