Continuing my #3dprinting of the logos of my favorite teams, the next installment is the #Akron Rubber Ducks minor league baseball team. When I bought the hat last year, I knew I needed to do something with the logo because it really pops.
I fired up #inkscape to make a SVG and #freecad to make the model from that SVG. It took a little planning on the heights for the different colors since I only have one extruder. Turned out great!
I’m glad that I have a good boss that has given me the week off after being out of town for 11 days to support a project at a chemical plant in Houston. This gives me time to catch up on all of the #FreeCAD, #3dprinting, and bike maintenance that I couldn’t work on while I was there.
Also, this trip further reinforced why I’m very glad I live in #Akron.
Today in Labor History January 29, 1936: Rubber workers engaged in a sit-down strike in Akron, Ohio. Their action helped establish the United Rubber Workers as a national union. Working conditions and pay were terrible and workers and virtually no benefits. They engaged in numerous sit-down strikes in the 1930s. Theirs preceded the more famous Flint sit-down strike of 1936-1937. The first American sit-down strike was probably in 1909, when 3,000 members of the IWW engaged in a sit-down strike against General Electric, in Schenectady, NY.
My drive yesterday from #Chicago back to #Akron took about 2 hours longer than it should have (8.5 hours total) because of the winter storm. The lake effect #snow near Michigan City, IN was VERY intense. I haven’t driven in conditions like that for 17 years.
This accident on I-90 westbound shut down the interstate in that direction. You couldn’t see the road, and snow was accumulating on our cars as we drove very slowly or was stopped. It only got bad again as I got closer to Cleveland.
