Regarding the / backdoor, quoting the original mail https://seclists.org/oss-sec/2024/q1/268

"Debian and several other distributions patch openssh to support systemd notification, and libsystemd does depend on lzma."

"it is likely the backdoor can only work on glibc based systems."

So, if you are using a non-sytemd distro ( e.g. , , , ) or a non-glibc distro (e.g. ) you are most likely not affected, right?

doesn't run in / under a pure / session (without Xwayland). It does in Debian and Fedora. qtwayland is installed. What's the problem?

I am looking for a / application, featuring at least:

  • Running under ( / )).
  • Ability to put more than one "root" node on the map.
  • Adding pictures, notes and links to nodes.
  • export, with URL links active.

I checked several apps today and is close, except it crashes when I hover over some items and has no active links in PDF exports. I am extremely open for suggestions.

I've just made the switch from to .

I'm really enjoying my experience with . While I used to be a fan of Arch, VoidLinux appears to be more stable and lightweight. :void:

When the discussion about , and native packages on , my first intuition is to ask "who do I trust to distribute software to my computer". And in that question, the "Who" part for me means the organization and the rules by which that organization works, transparency, etc.

Based on discussions here, others have widely differing attitudes towards trust in software distribution.

I'm curious about yours!

Like both 🙂
If systemd is not your thing: and offer a alternative

I, myself, love sysvinit/openrc
Simple, clean, it works

On the other hand: systemd works for me to 😎

YMMV 🙂

Hint: Try them all 🙂

is amazing - always has been!
It sure works great as a desktop 😎
Remember running 4.5 on a R500 back in the days... memories 🙂

and are both great - used both before

Thinking of distro-hopping, any suggestions? Thinking of going for either an arch-based distro such as :artix: or :endeavourOS: or some immutable distro such as :nixos: .

A little annoyed with Arch Linux at the moment.

sudo pacman-key --recv-key 3056513887B78AEB --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com

This works with other distros based on Arch, but vanilla Arch gives me this:

==> ERROR: You do not have sufficient permissions to read the pacman keyring.
==> Use 'pacman-key --init' to correct the keyring permissions.

I have run that suggested command, but it still will not let me import what I wish.

Additionally, I decided to use some of Artix Linux's repos too.

https://wiki.artixlinux.org/Main/Repositories

Artix Linux is an interesting take on Arch Linux. They tried to be SystemD free.

I on the other hand, don't mind SystemD and believe it causes more trouble trying to avoid it.

That said, their repo still has some goodies.

The glibc-debug package on debuginfod server hasn't been updated. glibc package is on 2.38-2, debuginfo has 2.37-3.

This breaks .

And why doesn't artix provide debug packages in their repositories? I'm very close to switching distro just because of this.

phew to whom it may concern: after being mildly annoyed for a while I just figured out how to keep from blanking my screen (the usual xset stuff didn't cut it), had to add

"consoleblank=0"

to the grub linux command line and re-run grub-mkconfig, et voila.
