Susana Muhamad, #Colombia’s #environment minister, who is expected to be the Cop16 president, said the South American country would use the summit to ensure #nature was a key part of the global environmental agenda in the year building up to the climate #Cop30 in the Brazilian Amazon in 2025, where countries will present new plans on how they will meet the #ParisAgreement.
#ClimateDiary There is no question that #COP28 will be the most important yet. The #GlobalStocktake will be the “biggest accountability moment in history”, and on its basis leaders will need to make crucial key decisions about fiscal and policy commitments. With less than two months to go, we need to all be as well informed as possible and put pressure on leaders as much as we can. I thought I would start a 🧵that I will keep going in the run up 1/n
11/n I just watched the WRI webinar "Responding to the Climate Crisis in Times of Uncertainty: A Clarion for Climate Leadership", and I am so very glad I did. Informative and inspiring, it brought home to me again just how crucial #COP28 (and #COP29 and #COP30 - all three) really are.
55/n #COP28 🧵 well now we have it: the Landmark Deal. The Schrödinger Cat of landmark deals: it both is and isn’t one! Yes, there is an agreement to “transition away”. Which is not nothing. But it is not at all, at all enough; the weakest, possible version you can imagine.
I just hope it’s enough of a wedge to make substantial further progress on #PhaseOut at #COP29 and #COP30. Clutching straws, I know, but you have to make the most of what you have
Congratulations to Brazil and President #Lula for being selected to host COP30 in Belém, Brazil in 2025! COP30 in Belém is an opportunity for meaningful dialogue, cooperation and innovative solutions. #COP30#ClimateLeadership#Brazil#Amazon#Belem
