My plan is currently to first do plain old analog recordings (100 sounds with 3½ octaves each, that's not gonna be fun, even when I'm just recording C and F), but then I'd try to open it up, maybe I can even dump the ROM or something. This thing is from 1994, they didn't protect their ROMs back then, did they.
@kev I have a literal box full of them. Just be careful jot to swap too often as the bars in the F91W is a press fit insteat of spring. So after a while, the plastic case will wear with the in/out of the pins and they will become loose.
I got a new watch! I realized having a basic digital watch would let me leave my phone in my bag more often, which helps me spend less time checking it. Plus this looks extremely 90s and I love it
Ok, yes I do already own a #Casio#F84W and those of you who follow me closely know I recently spent some time polishing out all the scratches and modding the backlight.
So why another? Well… I wanted a backup for this one as this is my favourite of all the Casios.
As an added bonus it may make up for the sin of buying a Skmei Casio clone recently, so I am not thrown out of the #CasioCult 🤪
In total I spent ¤536.59🇳🇴 (≈ 46€/$50🇺🇸/£40🇬🇧), including all shipping and other fees for both the watch itself (sent from Japan) and the light spreader (sent from Canada). Kind of a lot for a "cheap" digital watch but even buying an F-91W in Norway costs ¤399🇳🇴¹. So only a small premium (≈ 12€/$13🇺🇸/£10🇬🇧) to get a (IMHO) more interesting model with a (now) much better light.
¹ Norway is expensive, even online stores. I would never buy one of these directly in Norway.
New custom #Casio A168 with an SKXMOD metal case, bezel and sapphire crystal. Looks really nice, I think. I’ve got it on an F91W strap for the time being while I’m waiting for the new strap to arrive.
The downside of being a classic watch person, today I got my Tissot PRX back from service and repair after it crashed on the floor (I placed it on the boot of my car while working and the key opened the lid remotely).
I paid about half of what the watch cost originally because the movement was damaged and they had to realign a couple of things.
Then again, a smartwatch probably would have gone to the trash.
Maybe I should get a #Casio g-shock for these situations....
Joking aside, I’d definitely recommend getting a “beater” watch for this kinda thing. People ay they’re “affordable” watches, but the £650 my PRX cost is a lot of money for me, especially for something as frivolous as a watch.
@kev I wouldn't consider the PRX affordable either, but yes, a daily beater watch seems a good idea. Given this experience, you never know when something is about to go wrong....
I know it is a bit unusual but I own a #GrandSeiko, a #Citizen and a #Casio watch yet I don’t have any #Seiko. I am going to fix that soon as I am missing a field watch in my #watches collection. Hint: I went very cheap as I intend for it to be my beater 😁. #watchesofmastodon
@ppn Cartier might be my favorite watchmaker, I like so many pieces: Tank Chinoise, Tank Basculante, Tank Asymétrique, Crash, Dice, etc. and also I’d use one as a beater! 😅
@r_df_ng considering their prices and how easily they scratch, you are brave if you are using them as beater 😂. It’s ironic that they are known for their rectangular/square cases yet I actually prefer their round models like Pasha or Ballon Bleu but I wouldn’t mind a Santos 100 or medium if I manage to find a deal someday.
