If you're curious about the set of dog-tags that Elon Musk is wearing while he's smirking and telling people "Go fuck yourself", they're from the IDF.

Haven't seen anyone else report on it yet, but Elon Musk, Twitter's Nazi-meme-posting owner, is wearing dog-tags from the Israel Defence Forces. He's making a visible dog-whistle to show support of Israel's genocide in Palestine.

https://www.bpb.de/themen/parteien/sprache-und-politik/42759/vokabeln-im-nationalsozialismus/

Some thoughts on "parents rights" - and why Conservatives focus on them 🧵

I've read a lot of posts and articles about so-called .

They point out that politicians in use the phrase to:

  • diminish
  • cause or perpetuate harm to individuals
  • gain support from religious groups
  • copy tactics used in the USA
  • demonstrate
  • splinter LGBTQ solidarity
  • denigrate public education

All valid points - and maybe missing something?

@myeyesaredim @CanadianCrone

The whole "concerned parents" thing is also a much more bigoted

It invokes the hegemonic homophobic (literally phobic, fear-centred) view of the 1950s, as shown in this small example of many anti-gay films that were made then.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqIIeGmhL2Q

The idea was that all gay men wanted to go after any young boy they found, to both get their kicks and transmit the "disease" of homosexuality.

This is what those "parents" are "concerned" about.

On social media and in politics, people often use the word dogwhistle to indicate that someone is making statements that sound reasonable to an unsuspecting audience, but are worded in a way that those more familiar with the subject at hand have grown to recognize as code for a more extreme opinion.

Beware: In defense, the is often incorporated in another : the Motte and Bailey: feigning innocence by defending a modest stance when caught making an extreme statement.

By today’s Trumpian standards he seems mild. Even Obama praised him. Along with Lincoln, Republicans trot Ronald Reagan out every time Democrats praise their greats: Obama, LBJ, Kennedy, FDR or Truman.

Republicans regularly rate him their greatest after Lincoln.

In reality, the “great communicator,“ as he was called, was an impenetrable facade of congeniality who was hostile to civil rights.
