Many people are saying the Jerry Garcia Band is better than the Grateful Dead. More and more people are saying this, and JGB has been getting attention and has been doing very well.
My question is: How can the Grateful Dead be the Greatest American Rock band if they aren’t even the best American Rock Band with Jerry Garcia?
Nobody makes a similar argument about TAB v. phish.
Therefore, once again, I am correct: Phish is the Greatest American Rock band.
My #HotTakeJubilee stance that Vince Welnick couldn’t sing still stands but I am thoroughly enjoying Drums and Space from the show otd in 1994. Usually my strategy for the post Hornsby era is to pick and choose some choice tunes (in this cases, Lazy River Road, Eyes, Attics, Liberty) and Drums > Space. Am I a monster?
Good job by everyone on the #HotTakeJubilee today. I feel like mastodon needed this a bit, to loosen up just a little notch
Reminder it's within the spirit of the hashtag to delete any and all posts you don't want to stand behind tomorrow.
I don't think we should overuse the idea, but there's no reason the Jubilees should be restricted to leap days. For instance, when Trump inevitably keels over from brain parasites while cheating at golf, that will also be a suitable occasion.
Neil Peart is overrated as a drummer unless you believe the best part of drumming is drum solos. Bonham on the other hand is still a god. #HotTakeJubilee
Gonna wrap up this #HotTakeJubilee on a high note. True Love and Soul Mates are real and possible. My wife was my first real girlfriend in high school and we're still madly in love many decades later. We're laying low and waiting to rush the stage when doors open for Eliades Ochoa show tonight in Berkeley.
The current Kuroda lightshow with LEDs is beyond incredible when relatively close to the stage or viewing on a webcast. But outside of venues like MSG where he has a full-venue light rig, the lightshow comes off as small compared to his work before the LEDs. #HotTakeJubilee
By the time a novel subcultural form (artistic movement, music genre, fashion trend, etc) is well enough defined enough to be labeled, it has almost certainly lost its merit and become co-opted by the dominant culture
The Grateful Dead had better songs, but the consistency of the Phish lineup, and the resulting chemistry, (plus Jon Fishman) makes Phish the better “band”.
This is also why Phish cover bands will never be as successful as Grateful Dead cover bands.
@mrcompletely@maxellxlii90 JRAD plays the Dead's (amazing) catalog better than the Dead ever did. (I don't think I actually believe this, but maybe I do? Listen to JRAD 2x as much as the Dead these days...) #HotTakeJubilee
