Jaco Pastorious is overrated.

BrotherEarth,

@mrcompletely @mielcarz Joni Mitchell's Hejira would like to have a word with you.

Gonna wrap up this on a high note. True Love and Soul Mates are real and possible. My wife was my first real girlfriend in high school and we're still madly in love many decades later. We're laying low and waiting to rush the stage when doors open for Eliades Ochoa show tonight in Berkeley.

Garcia, Weir, Welnick autographs

Here's a cool find from my days in LA. I had a long-time guitar student who's family owned/ran The Spectrum and founded the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team. They had a scrapbook full of autographs and notes from bands and people who had performed there. I don't remember much else from the book, but I did get pics of a couple pages for my archive.

Bob Weir and Vince Welnick autographs.

So one good thing about & is that most folks here are level headed at least relative to other platforms. But that does mean we get very few really entertaining Scorching Hot Takes™️ bc no one wants to stand behind some insane thing they said as a lark.

So what if 2.29.2024 is a day? Post your most insane takes on any topic - without insulting anyone, don't be mean, this is still Fedi - delete them at the end of the day and we all act like it never happened

BrotherEarth,

@mrcompletely What about Scorching Hot Takes that are so hot that they are burned into our cerebral cortex and can't be erased and/or forgotten? Forever altering our groovy little corner of the fediverse and making us choose sides on topics such as Hair Metal vs Radiohead?

Got a little time this morning so I’m going to test out Mona’s new long post threading feature by telling the story of why we are so fucking psyched to have finally closed on a house in Denver.

So Allie and I had great jobs in NYC, but we still couldn’t afford to buy a space we actually wanted in NYC—at least without the kind of sacrifice we’d need to make for a meager two-bedroom condo in a decent neighborhood. (1/7)

BrotherEarth,

@chopaganda In my home timeline, the thread was in a scrambled order.

BrotherEarth,

@chopaganda That is strange. It was scrambled when it first came on in my home timeline, but now they're all in order, except 6 and 7 are flipped. Must be some sorting going on behind the scenes.

BrotherEarth,
BrotherEarth,

@fogelnet @chopaganda I see we're both fans of highbrow cinema, dude.

2/25/84 fantasy studios (maybe): only time i know of a weir/lesh duo until their 2018 tour. cool texture with super-busy divebombing lesh bass, but not sure he’s filling up any more space than usual, just a less cluttered field.

@bourgwick @dgans That cover pic is so epic. Would love to be able to read Jerry's mind at the moment it was taken.

We saw the great Shabaka Hutchings last night at the lovely Newmark Theater in downtown #PDX. As expected, the focus of the performance was his exploration of the flute, or I should say flutes, as he played a very wide variety of instruments, including several we didn't recognize. The band was excellent and did include Esperanza Spalding as hoped.

He is, of course, a genius. For my taste he's the most interesting voice in modern jazz by a wide margin. The performance was fascinating

BrotherEarth,

@mrcompletely Sounds like a cool show. Thanks for the rundown.

Your description of the one flute made me think of an instrument that Yusef Lateef played.

BrotherEarth,

@mrcompletely How cool for your wife, what a treat. Is this tour related to any certain Shabaka project? Would love to check it out.

BrotherEarth,

@mrcompletely Excellent. Will keep an ear out for some of that. My honey was a flute player in a previous life and would dig it for sure.

Phil Lesh & Friends Perform Atop Bay Area Roof For Terrapin Crossroads

https://www.jambase.com/article/phil-lesh-friends-bay-area-roof-terrapin-crossroads

BrotherEarth,

@fogelnet Wasn't that show at Phil's house up on the hill in Ross? I think he calls the house "Birdsong".

BrotherEarth,

@chopaganda @chillwig @ry_storm @Mdphunk @Evdude Based on what chillwig was saying, they weren't really monitoring what was going to those 32 tracks. Could be a variety of issues on any of those tracks; noise, overdriven channel, etc. Mixing 3 hours of 32 tracks is a chore taboot. The 2-track is basically done, add a little polish and ship it ~> Profit.

BrotherEarth, to random

@fogelnet I think I might have found you in a group pic MrsE took back in July 2019 at TXR. It popped up as the featured pic on my phone today. I was playing in the bar with Shakey Z + Scott Law. Phil hung out for part of the show with the band wives, I have a nice pic of them with Phil. Were you there? It was the night Phil sat in with Amy Helms in the Grate Room.

missing posts strikes again. I had to reset the cache three times on my iPad to get it to show up. It was not missing on my iPhone or Mac.

I guess the cache gets hosed often. Time to start resetting it daily.

BrotherEarth,

@fogelnet Come on over to @IceCubesApp, the water is fine.

BrotherEarth,

@fogelnet @IceCubesApp Sync works on Ice Cubes now, just need to hit "resume". There's been a lot of updates. One AI feature that is useful is auto-generate Alt-Text, it does a surprisingly good job. @dimillian is very active on development.

BrotherEarth,

@IceCubesApp There's a bug with latest update 1.10.24. An error message appears when trying to return to Home after browsing a remote timeline. Have to go to Local and then back to Home or restart app.

@chopaganda preferred free iOS masto app rn for an inbound newbie?

BrotherEarth,

@mrcompletely @chopaganda @IceCubesApp is free, open source and updated at least several times a week. It's a nice masto option.

BrotherEarth,

@Cyrus @mrcompletely @chopaganda @IceCubesApp agreed. I don't think the developer, @dimillian ever sleeps. IceCubes is on VisionOS too, if you're into that sort of thing.

Looking through my archive for shows to contribute to The Bluegrass Archive. If you haven’t checked that site out, it is a pretty amazing project.

Need a ruling on an artist for submission. Would the band Col. Bruce Hampton and The Codetalkers with Vassar Clements on fiddle for the whole show qualify as a viable BGA addition?

Let the jamgrass/newgrass debate begin…

cc: @mrcompletely @chopaganda

This is the show in question:
https://archive.org/details/ct2001-10-19.shnf

BrotherEarth,

@mrcompletely Muchas garcias, MrC. I can shn>flac that show if it's BGA worthy.

I found a few other shows in my archive that aren't on BGA. The artists are already listed, Railroad Earth and Yonder Mountain.

Happy 1997-12-11 to those who celebrate. Phish played a great show on this date in 1997, some of it was featured in the “Bittersweet Motel” movie.
