#Lethbridge, #Alberta, City Councilor Dodic will propose to remove the brand new downtown #bike lanes & halt future construction, citing inconveniences for motorists & negative impacts on businesses, despite studies showing increased sales!! He advocates for painted lanes, dismissing safety concerns. The motion risks wasting taxpayer money. Urgent action is needed! Share this callout & oppose the motion by contacting council:
Hi Mastodon, do you have ideas about what people in #Lethbridge, #Alberta, should do this summer, when we expect some degree of #water scarcity, to manage extreme #heat emergencies, that is, #heatwaves and #heatdomes?
It has been perhaps 15 dry years here in Southern #Alberta. In this time of #water scarcity, to conserve water, the City of #Lethbridge could support farmers in the watershed of 🧜🏽♂️ Napiitahtaa (a.k.a. the Oldman River) to transition away from irrigation-intensive #agriculture. Rewild the land. Give it back to deep-rooted carbon-fixing indigenous prairie grasses, and 🦬 Iiniiksi (a.ka. bison). Also transition & support the workers from water-intensive food processing industrial jobs into other jobs
This is the message that I just sent out to my colleagues in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC):
Dear GSDIN members and AAFC employees,
As members of the Gender and Sexual Diversity Inclusion Network (GSDIN), we are reaching out to address a pressing matter that requires our collective attention.
To demonstrate your support for the rights and well-being of #2SLGBTQIA+ people, we invite you to join us at one of the following locations this Saturday (February 3):
In my personal attempt to save Mother Earth, I walk and bike everywhere. I live in the London Road neighbourhood of #Lethbridge, #Alberta, and I pass Avail Chartered Professional Accountants on my walk to and from everything downtown. They use a loud, shrill alarm to keep people away from their building, and they use it frequently when I walk by. I have high blood pressure. This alarm is an assault. The persistent noise is extremely inhumane and it causes me quantifiable physical harm.
Five years ago, when I moved to #Lethbridge, #Alberta, my #sense of #smell became more sensitive than it had been before. I could smell the sprinkle of cinnamon on a cappuccino before it was on the table. After 4 #vaccination shots & masking at the mall, I nevertheless caught #covid. I'm currently self-isolating & experiencing the diminishment of my sense of smell. I can still smell things, but only if I put my nose right next to it!
Today, I went to a counter-protest to support the #2SLGBTQIA+ community in #Lethbridge, #Alberta. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈 We were counter-protesting the "1MillionMarch4Children". I made a point of dialoging with the protestors. I felt supported by the group of my co-workers from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Lethbridge Research and Development Centre, and by other members of SAGE Clan 🦅 and the FRINGE bicycle gang 🚴🏽who were there, too. At such counter-protests, I have such a sense of community!
