Re-upping this. I'd be happy to take feedback on it. Thoughts. Whatever.

But Miami Dade County is trying to pass the first county level ordinance in the nation to protect workers from heat related illness and death. It would be the ONLY such law not in a state on the Pacific Ocean.

Don't live in WA, OR or CA? You likely do NOT have ANY protections from heat related illness.

But guess who is trying to block it?

I'm in a huge line in where the county is trying to pass the first ever heat ordinance for workers. Over 30 people die a year in this county alone from heat related crises at work.

And yet workers are NOT entitled to water.

Read that again.

The heat index here can go over 105° and workers aren't entitled to water or breaks in the shade. And NO PLACE in the US has any laws to protect workers from heat.

We're trying to change that.

Get out and today get involved tomorrow.

On July 18th, in a unanimous 11-0 vote, the Miami-Dade County Commission approved the Miami-Dade Heat Standard for Outdoor Workers on first reading, advancing it to the Community Health Committee for a public hearing. Once passed, this standard could become the country's first countywide heat standard for outdoor workers, protecting nearly 100,000 Miami-Dade outdoor workers in agriculture and construction with essentials like water, shade, and rest periods.

Yesterday morning, the Miami-Dade County Commissioners moved the vote over the fate of Miami-Dade's Pine Rocklands to Sept 19th after two hours of public comments! This gives us more time to rally together and amplify our voices in opposition to the proposed theme park that threatens to destroy this vital ecosystem and disrupt the lives of endangered wildlife.

Here are some urgent calls to action to help us protect and preserve the Pine Rocklands:
Send a message to the MD BCC - https://bit.ly/SupportMDwildlife

The day before Miami-Dade schools reopened, hundreds take the streets in Miami marching on the School Board, protesting Desantis' fascist laws of indoctrination.

Was it ever determined whether his "consulting" contract with a developer while Mayor was super-slimy or just slimy?
