Great editorial by Gideon Levy, award winning journalist and on the editorial board at Haaretz, regarding the genocide in Gaza, Israel's slanted media and lack of coverage, and the trial at the ICJ
[…] "Yes, #Hamas was financed by the government of Israel in an attempt to weaken the Palestinian Authority led by #Fatah," Borrell said in a speech in the University of Valladolid in #Spain without elaborating.
[…] "We only believe a two-state solution imposed from the outside would bring peace even though Israel insists on the negative,"
The Israeli Press and Media Council (heמועצת העיתונות והתקשורת בישראל) is calling #Netanyhu to come out of hiding and answer the media’s questions in person. Netanyahu has been avoiding briefing the press so far, while his office has been releasing carefully curated photo-ops in chosen locations and family members directly impacted.
We, the members of the Israel Press and Media Council and Its president, the retired Supreme Court Justice Hanan Melcer, call on you to initiate a meeting with the press and answer the questions that will be directed to you.
The need for this kind of conference is vital.
This is how a leader at the head of a democracy acts in good times and even more so in days when it faces a murderous terrorist attack.
We do not underestimate for a moment the importance of your appearances in front of the camera and conveying a message to the public - but it is also necessary to provide the opportunity to present you with questions and even more so with difficult ones.
This does not contradict the need we all feel in unity of the people against a murderous enemy.
This kind of a conference will also serve to emphasize and illustrate the significant difference between Israel and its enemies.
The media has an especially important public role in these difficult days. Despite the load of responsibility that is placed on you, we hope you will respond in the affirmative to our request as soon as possible.
