French President Emmanuel Macron is serious about increasing opportunities in the workforce for #neurodivergent folks. Today I was honored to share some insights gained by talking to autistic people with Vincent Grimaldi de Puget, chair of the national Commission for the Recruitment of Atypical Talents, who got in touch after reading #NeuroTribes. It was a great conversation.
@powells.bsky.social in Portland is one of my favorite booksellers on Earth, and I'm so honored that Powell's on Hawthorne is featuring my book #NeuroTribes, along with superb books by Devon Price, Hannah Gadsby, and others, to celebrate #neurodiversity this month.
He appears to be the prototype of a shrink, drawing arbitrary lines, ignoring findings, excluding people from diagnosis, that many people are facing still today.
And all that to boost his ego to make his diagnosis as unique and as extreme as possible.
@actuallyautistic Does anyone have any good book recommendations about autism in adults? I've got a coworker who wants to understand how they can work with me better, but I don't know any books to refer them to myself.
@oolivero45@actuallyautistic. @stevesilberman, author of the brilliant #Neurotribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity with which you are probably familiar and, if not, I encourage you to read, will I'm sure have some useful suggestions.
Neurotribes, by Steve Silverman. Amazing book, it gave context to so many things I have read about autism, misconceptions, contradictions etc. and how we are where we are. It's a hard read because it describes how autistic children were treated (and adults ignored) until not so long ago, but I would recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about autism. Note it focusses exclusively on North America and (parts of) Europe. #Neurotribes#SteveSilverman#autism@bookstodon
Wonderful to see two of our favorite people, Todd Drezner and his wife Erica. Todd's compassionate 2010 documentary "Loving Lampposts," about their son Sam, was a huge influence on my own #NeuroTribes. #neurodiversity
Thrilled to see that three different editions of my history of #autism and #neurodiversity, #NeuroTribes, are the #2, #4, and #6 top bestsellers in History of Medicine on @AmazonUK. Thank you, UK readers!
Donald Triplett, the first person diagnosed with #autism in America, has died. Despite the dire predictions for him, he lived a happy life, traveling worldwide and working in a bank for 65 years. There's much more information in my book #NeuroTribes. https://tinyurl.com/2x32bexb
To be clear: I'm very happy that #StephenStills and #NeilYoung
played together last night, and that the great James Raymond, #DavidCrosby's son and chief collaborator for 30 years, was included. I'm not a fan of #AutismSpeaks - my book #NeuroTribes can tell you why. This was not an event for Croz, but a benefit. But I'm hoping that any future tribute events to
Croz also include his bandmates from the #Lighthouse and #SkyTrails Bands. I'll be there. #music#autism
