Who will I see at #PHPTek next week? I’m giving a keynote on Thursday, and I’m super nervous. It’s only the second keynote I’ve ever given, and the first one was over 10 years ago. 😬😰 #PHP
As is tradition for me, I get home from traveling and grab myself a California Burrito 🌯. No one makes these like we do in SoCal. Already looking forward to #phptek 2024. The big question now is, where?
Proposal for a conference talk: How to configure #PHPStorm and all its tooling extensions (xdebug, phpstan, php-cs-fixer, etc.) to use a docker container consistently.
OH: “A lot of the stuff that Python gets praised for being fast at, PHP now outperforms Python at doing, but it’s a story we’re not really telling. We should be telling that story.” #PHPTek#HallwayTrack#PHP
It’s good to see @ramsey share his personal discovery that when he was looking for a job nobody gave a shit about all the amazing OSS contributions he made. #phptek24#phptek
Heading to bed early for an early wake-up time for my flight to Chicago for #PHPTek this week. This will be the first in-person conference I’ve spoken at since 2019. I’m feeling a little nervous, both of traveling and of speaking, but I’m feeling very good about the talks themselves. #PHP
Use Value Objects rather than massive $options arrays when exposing an interface for configuring requests made by your SDK, because you want to make your SDK code as self-documenting as possible. - @SecondeJ#phptek
I sent a text to my coworker who is running the Vonage booth at #phptek sating: I kinda wish I was there. Looks like everyone is having fun. But this is my current state of affairs. I’m having more fun with little dude
Lesson for potential and current speakers — my talk today didn’t go over as well as I wanted. The audience had different expectations and feedback was helpful. This happens to every speaker at one time or another. #phptek#phptek24
Thanks to all who attended my talk “Put a UUID On It!” at #PHPTek, especially to those who laughed at my jokes and got the Portlandia references—you’re the real heroes. 😉
The slides are linked to from Joind.in, and while you’re there, please rate the talk and provide feedback. Thanks!
This photo popped up in my “featured photos” today.
Taken at #PHPTek 2017 in Atlanta, that’s Sammy, Amanda, @joepferguson, @eric, and @john seated on stage, with @matthewtrask looming behind them on a large projection screen.
I’m pretty sure I was being a jerk in the audience that night.
It’s an odd decision for #PHPTek not to stream the keynote and some of the talks for virtual attendees, but I guess they need an incentive to motivate people to actually show up in person. 🤷🏽♂️
I’m getting my presentation ready for #phptek. It’s a challenge to hit the time. I’ll do a test run and it will be 5 minutes short so I add more and then it’s 10 minutes too long.
Looks like I have a tutorial (Writing PHP Extensions) and a talk (Better Debugging with @Xdebug) accepted for php[tek] 23! (I hope they meant 2024 ;-) ).
Ever wanted to build and publish a #Composer package but don’t know how? Come to my tutorial at 2pm CDT in PHPUgly Hall, and I’ll teach you how! #PHP#PHPTek
