Iโ€™ve been binge-watching YouTube videos of โ€œKarensโ€ getting arrested by police (I used to watch COPS back in the day) and a few things jump out at me:

  1. these encounters are likely the most stressful thing ever for these folks
  2. most do not realize they live in a heavily-policed country due to very few past interactions with police
  3. mental health issues go across all races and income levels
  4. drug and alcohol use goes across all races and income levels

@derickr I really appreciate this information. Yes, I did ask for proof, and the only thing they offered was a report from the mechanic stating that (my) negligence caused the clutch to burn up. I purchased the full insurance, but they said it wasnโ€™t covered under that. Iโ€™ll check that site out, but they might be similar to the BVRLA.

I love bullshit dark patterns like the one I just encountered with . I was trying to cancel the Premium subscription because my trial ends on Thursday. I opened the mobile app, dug through the settings until I found the right page only to see a message that I need to visit their website to perform the cancellation.

I opened their site and once again dug through multiple menus and pages to get to the cancellation page. I hit the cancel button and got a new error message: โ€œSubscriptions cannot be canceled from this device. Please visit our cancellation page from a desktop computer.โ€ Exasperated, I opened up Safariโ€™s page options and selected, โ€œRequest Desktop Site.โ€

I then hit the back button and was taken to a list of cancellation options. I clicked the Cancel button and after going through five pages begging me to stay and trying to bribe me with offers and discounts, I was finally able to cancel the subscription. Why was that so hardโ€ฝ

Whatโ€™s even worse is that hitting โ€œRequest Desktop Siteโ€ didnโ€™t even change the page layout at allโ€”it kept the same mobile layout! Why did they place an artificial roadblock in the wayโ€ฝ

They intentionally make it damn near impossible to cancel a subscription. Itโ€™s greed, pure and simple.

It shouldnโ€™t take half an hour to do something like that. ๐Ÿคฌ

Introducing the electric car was a milestone. But the traditional carmakers now see the handwriting on the wall and theyโ€™re going to eat Teslaโ€™s lunch.

@Crell Iโ€™ve always thought of an upgrade as going from one level of service to the next (for example, going from the free version to the paid version). To me, going from one software version to another is just an update.

Itโ€™s not something I discuss much, mainly because it makes me more depressed to talk about, but I suffer from dysthymia, or persistent depressive disorder. I am always depressed. Always. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but always.

Please donโ€™t tell me about some medical treatment I should try, or how you sometimes feel โ€œsad,โ€ too. Thatโ€™s not why Iโ€™m sharing.

Iโ€™m sharing because it might help to understand why I seem emotional and irrational at times over things like programming languages.
