1/2 Did route-testing on Eastside, & I saw that the Mercer Slough Trail has finally reopened! Now, there’s easy access to the South Bellevue light rail station from the I-90/Mountains to Sound Trail without needing to detour through a neighborhood. I am a very proud parent right now because my kiddo biked herself with me riding nearby to school, locked it herself and then when I came to pickup she wanted to pick the route home — and she picked a decent one and knew where she was going just fine. I wish there were actual bike lanes or trails for more of it because people in cars sometimes behave poorly, but she’s pretty smart and has been walking to/from school fine for a bit. #SeaBikes#bikes
Ironically when she gets to middle school the most direct bike friendly route is much much less hazardous even though it’s three times further away. But that’s #Seattle bike infrastructure and “planning” for you!
Launch of 2 line train in Bellevue / Redmond #seattle sat. was a huge hit with transit-obsessed kiddo. Lego model of train! Bouncy castle decorated like train! Plenty of swag. @seabikeblog Love it. I see why it covers only the areas it does but I also really wish it went further north to Juanita and north Redmond, particularly to show how East Rail connects to Sammamish River. But it's gorgeous and, like I said, I see the "10 minutes" line and see why.
