FINALLY! @TheWarOnCars episode based on the Winter Cycling Congress 2024 is out:
"Winter Cycling in Oil Country":
An unlikely cycling revolution is happening in , Alberta. Despite freezing temps, sprawl, an economy built on tar sands, this city is in the midst of a 4-year, C$100M investment in active transportation that will connect the city with a network of high-quality, protected bike lanes.

Hear from the folks doing it"

Another typical Bridlewood neighbourhood , about 15 km, 1 hour, today.

When you ride a bicycle, you're part of the neighborhood.

When you're in a car, you're just passing through.

I’ve never found a better face covering to wear with goggles than early-pandemic homemade cloth masks.

Somehow they don’t fog up when skiing or (today) biking in extreme cold.

First snowstorm of the year! The snow has been piling up all day but at least it's fluffy and cold. Saw at least a dozen bicycle commuters braving the elements around Whyte/ University, and lots of tracks. It would be nice if the City cleared the priority bikes routes before the snow got too deep, even if it's still snowing, because it's treacherous out there.

Today's typical neighbourhood streets & paths ride (aprox 15km/1 hr)

A question about riding in the dark from @ai6yr:

Q4. The road bike I am now riding around town (1985 Dave Scott Ironman) has no reflectors or lights, and though I don't current go anywhere when it's dark, I am wondering what kind of additions the experienced here would recommend to improve safety on that front (or how to make it usable in darker conditions?) I'm using the bicycle for running errands...

ClintonAnderson,

@ascentale @ai6yr

No such thing as too many lights

On the frame is a Govee LED strip, powered by a rechargeable battery bank I got off Amazon.... Attached with zip ties and clear silicon caulking

Pictured is my "Blue Glow" setting, but I have an Xmas Lights setting that twinkles and flashes and does all kinds of stuff

friends -- how do your kids keep their legs warm on the ?
My 4th grader is riding her own bike now so a blanket is no longer an option.

Also taking recommendations for handlebar mitts for small people.

Thank you!!

"Happy" is not the first word that comes to my mind. For me season starts when the city starts dumping salt on everything.
