Not : Fixing 🔧 the V is relatively simple: is making the top of the dome a little bit thicker. “The corrective action is a pretty low-tech thing,” Bruno said. “We will simply put in another layer of stainless steel" https://aviationweek.com/defense-space/space/united-launch-alliance-aims-vulcan-first-flight-year-end

#ULA's #Vulcan rocket is likely at least a year ⏳🥱💤 away from becoming #operational. ULA aimed to launch the first Vulcan rocket in 📆 2019 when the company announced the program in 📆2015.https://arstechnica.com/space/2023/06/ula-shipping-vulcan-upper-stage-back-to-factory-for-more-work/

V upper stages have been built using laser arc welding 🤖. ’s also employs this welding technique. will revert back to gas tungsten arc welding. Bruno says it’s a wider weld which can be more forgiving, even though it is done 🖐️. During a test firing on 📆 June 30 one of the engines exploded 💥 at a testing site. Full vehicle certification is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 📆 2024 https://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2023/07/vulcan-centaur-anomalies/

Probably no maiden launch in early May because of problems with its V upper stage! "Keeping you posted," the ULA CEO just tweeted in https://twitter.com/torybruno/status/1641270272987676672: "During Qual testing of Centaur V structural article at MSFC, the hardware experienced an anomaly. This is is why we thoroughly & rigorously exercise every possible condition on the ground before flight. Investigation is underway. Vulcan will fly when complete." And so the lander stays grounded.

cosmos4u,

The ULA CEO has now shared a video of the hydrogen explosion in a V structural test article: https://twitter.com/torybruno/status/1646572389193625600 - "Outside of the test rig/ stand. Test article is inside (you can’t see it). Hydrogen leak. H2 accumulated inside the rig. Found an ignition source. Burned fast. Over pressure caved in our forward dome and damaged the rig." Questions are answered in the thread: "Literally everything else is done", so the 's maiden launch may still happen pretty soon.

📆 April 18, 2023 has been investigating the source of a leak. The hydrogen combustion event caused an overpressurization 💥that ruptured the V forward dome. https://aviationweek.com/aerospace/commercial-space/sierra-still-tracking-year-end-dream-chaser-space-debut
