Reading some of @aral's articles, this one in particular is quite interesting to me as it brings back an issue I've ranted about a few times: https://ar.al/2022/11/09/is-the-fediverse-about-to-get-fryed-or-why-every-toot-is-also-a-potential-denial-of-service-attack/

I've semi-frequently mentioned that admin piss fights are a problem because is instance-centric, not , and doesn't propagate messages via (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gossip_protocol).

As it turns out, this is a second issue that gossip message spreading would greatly mitigate if not solve.

lispi314,

@J12t @silverpill So many things are left out of the standard though that a secondary standard just to be able to fix the lacunae of the first in an interoperable manner would be necessary.

DID resolution has a lot of variability and avoiding unnecessary distributed ledger shenanigans would in itself require quite some coordination.

https://www.w3.org/TR/activitypub/#delivery expects an HTTP POST handshake, which imposes some fairly annoying constraints on message delivery.

People Really Don’t Want to Work in the Office
So it turns out that people like flexible work and don't want return-to-office policies mandated.

I'm baffled that companies were caught off guard by high attrition rates when they mandated return-to-office policies. Employees got a taste of what autonomy is like and realized that sitting in the office every day all day was a bad deal. It

Don’t tick the “next day delivery” box without really needing it. Urgent delivery means that delivery vehicles go out only partly full and travel further to get to delivery sites that are more spaced out. It basically chops off a large part of the energy, human and cost efficiency of mass parcel delivery, but it’s ooooh, soo seductive. Please don’t fall for it (it’s a marketing ploy), unless the sky is going to fall in if you don’t get widget A by tomorrow.

Here is the documentation for server to server delivery in the ActivityPub protocol.

I think you are correct. If there are recipients in the "to", "cc", "bto", "bcc" and "audience" fields, the activity will be delivered more quickly. Mentioning someone in a post is a way to add a recipient.

Every couple of days I run into a lost gig economy delivery driver in my building. Today, it was a monolingual Spanish-speaking woman. She was in the elevator when I got in and was clearly trying to exit our maze.

For the love of everything decent, if you order delivery and getting to your home's front door requires going through more than two doors and/or an elevator, just meet the delivery people at the street. These folks do not get paid enough to be losing 20 minutes and risking a ticket or their bike getting stolen because you're too lazy to put on slippers.
