The very controversial "Nightmare Rock" at the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, California. Nearly every B-western from the '50s was filmed in the Alabama Hills as well as hundreds of other movies, both classic & modern. The Alabama Hills are public lands. Thankfully, while roadside Nightmare Rock has been painted in various ways over many decades, I have never seen any other street art or graffiti in the area.
Looked over at the birdsite today, to see if I had missed anything... not really. It really feels like this... Posting volumes are dramatically down, and Mastodon is a better now for sure. #birdsite#twitter
For #MountainMonday here's a view of the unnamed peak "12782" (its elevation in feet on maps) and Mount Morgan from Gem Lake, at the upper end of the lovely Little Lakes Valley in California's Eastern Sierra. (vertical photo)
We had thunderstorms every afternoon during a one week summer hiking vacation in the Eastern Sierra, in August 2012. It limited our hiking a little bit, but provided some excellent drama for photos, of course!
Crowley Lake Columns from my most recent road trip. The Eastern Sierra is such a wild geological wonderland. If you didn't know better, it would be easy to imagine this place as human-made.
This place is easy to find and an easy hike or a very short hike if you have high clearance 4WD (and are a skilled driver!). Photographically, the best light is in the late afternoon.
If you're curious, this was shot with a 15 mm fisheye and then corrected for distortion in Lightroom.
