Now that the longer days are here, solar production at the house has gone up a lot, compared to winter, even with one panel down, due to a broken microinverter. I’m glad Enphase and our local solar installer are providing good service and warranty repair. Thanks, Highpoint Solar.

My daughter met George RR Martin today at The Book Cellar, a bookstore in Chicago. She wasn’t allowed to tell anyone, as per his wishes, nor was anyone allowed to ask him about Game of Thrones books, apparently. But, she said he was very nice, and gave her a Game of Thrones coin.

When driving through Rifle, Colorado last week, I thought I’d stop in at Lauren Boebert’s restaurant, Shooter’s Grill (where the wait staff famously are all strappin’ iron as they take your order). Alas, they could not secure their borders, and have closed down, and become Tapatios Mexican Family Restaurant. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Woke up in Chicago, just got home this evening to several inches of snow here in Bishop, California. Why is it more wintry in California than freakin Chicago!?

biffnix,
@biffnix@mountains.social avatar

@penryu Sure - just being facetious, of course. It was unusually warm in Chicago the past few days (I was helping my daughter move into a new apartment there), and we hadn’t had ANY snow this season in Bishop until last night, when I flew home (well, flew to LA and drove home). The elevation difference at my house is more like 4,000 feet higher than the Windy City as well…

Our whole-home solar solution is live! We’re producing more power than we use, storing in a battery array, and no longer have to worry about those annoying PSPS power outages. And reducing that carbon footprint as the cherry on top!

@elaterite REC 405W panels (20 of them, for 8.1kW array), 21kWh storage (Enphase 10T), Enphase microinverters and controllers. Talked to several installers, went local to me (Owens Valley, in the Eastern Sierra region of California), and used Highpoint Solar, out of Mammoth Lakes.

@elaterite Our ranch style house is on the smaller side, at 1160sq.ft.

My son, Joey, and his girlfriend, Bonnie, enjoying an amazing lunch at Local Ocean, a great seafood place in Newport, Oregon. It’s right on the bay. I had grilled albacore tuna kabobs, Bonnie had a lingcod BLTA. All of it was fantastic. I had to burn some vacation days before June 30 (carried over from the pandemic), so I took a week to go visit my son who lives in Portland, Oregon.

I’m staycationing this week, using up as much vacation leave I accrued during the pandemic as I can, before I lose it at the end of June. It was such a nice morning, so I took the Vespa into town to grab some lunch. It’s super busy in Bishop for Mule Days, but the best part of living here is that in about two minutes, I can be all by myself and out of town again. Just another great day in California.

Pretty good Sierra Wave on the evening walk. Here’s what Wikipedia says about it: “The Sierra Wave is a type of air current created by winds that lift off the Sierra Nevada mountain range of California. Known as lee waves, Sierra Waves form as winds hit the Sierra Nevada and are forced to rise, causing water vapor to condense as it cools and forming lenticular clouds on the leeward side of the mountain range.”
