So many have never heard of the horrific attack on gay men at the Upstairs Lounge In New Orleans 50 years ago. Bodies went unclaimed and clergy refused to hold funerals.

We must never forget how we were treated then because TODAY every single House Republican just voted for a Speaker who wrote in favor of criminalizing gays and opposes our marriages.

New Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson wrote in support of criminalizing gay sex and voted against legal recognition of same sex marriage. He also voted for a nationwide abortion ban.

And every Republican in the House just voted for him to be Speaker.

25 years ago today, Matthew Shepard was beaten, tortured, and left to die near Laramie, Wyoming on the night of October 6th, 1998, just for being gay.

He died six days later October 12th, from severe head injuries. He was just 21 years old.
