New Flow Battery Using Simple Sugar Has Year Long Charge Duration For Grid Storage: A Healthier Use For Sugar
The discovery could lead to new low-cost, long duration energy storage systems that can write fossil energy out of the picture by capturing wind and solar power for weeks, months, or even whole seasons.
To provide full day, utility scale energy storage as ...continues
In spring 2022, after having been in too many discussions about batteries, energy storage, and renewable share in energy grids, I decided to write a Twitter 🧵 on the subject, trying to collect what I have learned in the last decade. I think it's high time I transferred this to mastodon, as long as I still can at least read Twitter. Also, there are a few things I wanted to improve on that thread, so this is my chance.

You are correct, NPP is not the single solution but important to highlight that we cant afford to shut down our current plants. We have to pick all the low-hanging fruit by subsidizing those and tax the rest. For instant control we need batteries.
One big thing regarding grid batteries is establishing a recycling standard for EVs so that old aging vehicle batteries with low capacity per weight ratio can be reused for the grid where weight is not an important factor. #gridstorage
