I am happy to announce that a few minutes ago I published a new #blog #article on my #website 🙂 It is an #interview with Artemiy Pavlov from #sinevibes. 🥳
I got to know him when I asked for native #linux versions of his plugins Albedo, Blend, Luminance & Co. He's not only a lovely guy, but also super interesting (both personally and regarding his work).

@amadeus love the philosophy behind the Sinevibes plugins, and they are tastefully designed, too!

My audio VM works generally well (even great) except for one problem:
Live doesn't see the content in shared folders.

Does anybody have an idea how to solve this? Note that the guest OS (win) can access normally everything in the shared folders, and it's only Live that doesn't (without errors or anything).

So anyway, here's my of the day and it'd be great if you could boost for visibility since the -> -> -> crows is... tiny?

Anyone knows a music player on Linux than supports the #opus format?
Preferably a @kde styled one but I'll take others.

As far as I can tell, #Elisa and #JuK do not seem to support it (please let me know if that's wrong since I'd rather use one of these two).

I've seen that VLC reads it but I don't find it very satisfying as a music player.

Any composers out there who want to know what linux audio is like, feel free to message.

I find it less fiddly than windows. Its got plusses and minuses compared to core audio.

The OS isn't spying on me, but there's not a perfect replacement for Sibelius.

Does anyone else maintain #changelog (s) for their #computer (s)?
I enter all configuration adjustments and #update (s) in a #markdown file for each machine.
This might seem like unnecessary extra work, but has paid off several times for the sake of traceability or #reproducibility in the past. 🤓

@solidtrax Oh, how nice! I've wanted to go every year, but never made it. Would be nice to go next year, maybe. 🫣

@amadeus ok, see you next year Amadeus 😉

44100 Hz or 48000 Hz for ?
Personally I usually go with 48000 Hz because it somehow feels more "natural" to me than 44100 Hz (as half of 96000 Hz or a quarter of 192000 Hz). Made my life easier a few times when I wanted to for too.

@graves501 I don't think you're doing anything that would put you at a disadvantage. 😊

@amadeus The difference in resolution comes into play above 22khz. The best human ear can only hear below 20khz. If you are recording for a dog you need more resolution, but not the human ear. (or of course trans coding repeatedly between the two will get you eventually as errors add up)

Does anyone else use the Dual Display (Arranger/Mixer) setting in on a single monitor from time to time? I find it nice to have the mixer and device chain always visible (and context sensitive) while working on an arrangement, and to have the latter always visible as well. On a big enough screen at least, this can be a very comfortable approach for me.

plaimbock,
@plaimbock@fosstodon.org avatar

@amadeus Yeah I noticed the obstructions. That doesn't work for me. Great that it sometimes does for you.

amadeus,
@amadeus@mstdn.social avatar

@plaimbock I think it would be cool if they added some more display options for larger displays. Also, I'd like to have a light theme as well. 😇

For the past couple of weeks I've spent my evenings modding my Behringer RD-3.

It's a fun way to learn some basic #electronics

..and to get a cheaper Roland TB-303 ;)

Turned out pretty good and sounds even better!

Mods:

  • Lower cutoff
  • Hollow square
  • Filter overdrive deluxe
  • Rubber mod
  • Softer VCA attack
  • Higher resonance
  • PSU mod
  • Manual accent

I'll write a blog post about the process soon, but for now, here's an image

Wouah. Super !

Want to start a solo podcast about making art in general and electronic music production specifically.

I want to talk about the mindset / metacognitive aspects of making art because this stuff doesn't get talked about enough. I also want to talk about what it's been like moving my entire music production setup to Linux, as well as thoughts on various DAWs, synths, etc.

My hope is that posting about this will give me a little pressure to get going. Details forthcoming.

One of the #bitwig 5.2 #feature (s) I am looking forward too:
"Mouseless navigation is a breeze in Bitwig Studio 5.2. With Bitwig’s default key commands, your arrow keys can now send you between relevant points of interest in clips or on the Arranger Timeline, or even between different tracks in your project."
