I'm having a hell of a day with Firefox today (and part of yesterday). Since 126.0 was released many websites make Firefox crash (for example opening images here in Mastodon but also a Grafana dashboard and others). All in Gnome with Wayland and Ubuntu 24.04. Are other people having the same issues? #Firefox#Ubuntu#Wayland#Gnome
@adelgado I've had no problems with #Firefox 126.0 but I'm on #Fedora 40 with #GNOME & #Wayland. IIRC this can happen when you did not close all instances of Firefox $previous_version. Try closing all Firefox windows and also make sure that there are no lingering instances ($ ps ax | grep firefox). Then start Firefox again and see if that helps.
Finding a good tutorial on YouTube to learn how to use docker is like pulling teeth. They all have prerequisites, which means you either have to go learn about those first or just find something different. Has nobody learned to assume their viewers know nothing? Hello, does noob ring a bell?
@jpmens Had the same issue so I installed https://www.sshguard.net/ Set threshold=10, block_time=86400 (secs) and ipv4_subnet=24 since they often switch IPs in the same network. Then watch them get blocked by the dozens.
OK lazyweb, I've read a lot of wireguard docs but their explanations are all lacking. Anyone got pointers for these?
my ISP doesn't support IPv6. I'm renting a VPS with v4/v6 addresses. I'd like to run wireguard and route all IPv6 traffic from my LAN out thru the VPS.
I'd also like to connect from WG on my laptop to my VPS and get onto my home LAN. What happens if I'm on a hotel wifi whose subnet (192.168.1.x) is the same as my home LAN?
Maybe one of you #linuxaudio nerds knows. I'm trying to use the #plugin Instinct by Inertia Audio Systems with Bitwig Studio Flatpak, but Bitwig reports libwebkit2gtk-4.0.so.37: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory, which makes sense, since the package is present in another version webkit2gtk-4.1 2.42.5-1 on my #manjaro system. I think this dependency is not ideal. But what could I recommend to the developers so that they could deliver the plugin in a "smarter" fashion?
@amadeus I just installed the Instinct trial and had no problem with opening it in Bitwig (non-flatpack). I have webkit2gtk4.0-2.42.5 installed (on Fedora 39) which provides /usr/lib64/libwebkit2gtk-4.0.so.37. If you really have that lib installed then maybe Bitwig can't access it outside its flatpak sandbox. Flatpak Bitwig can not use windows plugins via yabridge either.
@amadeus No biggies. I found out I actually have a license for Granulizer and Instinct 😁️ Allowing a DAW in a Flatpak access to the filesystem (to plugins) kinda defeats the purpose of a sandbox. But I hope the Flatpak developers figure out a way to cater to these use cases too. Have you tried installing Flatseal (flatpack) and in Flatseal allowing Bitwig access to"All system files" (under Filesystem)? Maybe that makes it work (against the purpose of a sandbox).
It's always disappointing to see invasive lionfish on Caribbean dive sites, as they devour the local populations and have few predators. That said, they are visually interesting, with so many different colors and textures warning predators about the venomous spines.
@webcubus They look great. I only saw a few smaller ones last time I was there. It seems putting them on the menu (Lionburger) and organizing Lionfish hunting dives helped quite a lot.
Would someone please build a small-scale mail server that has all the things and just works? I’d do it myself but I was informed that I already have to many projects.
@stpaultim Yes, a per document service would work better for me too. If the self-hosted solutions are too cumbersome maybe just have the client's authorised signatory date, sign (& stamp) the contract, scan it and email it back?
#studio#rebuild almost done now. 🥳 Not sure if I like the #acoustic#panel (s) as they take away quite a bit of light. Also, electrical problems still unresolved. But the electricians are coming today, so I have high hopes. 😇
@amadeus Nice progress! Before I read "acoustic panel" I thought those were some very fancy electrostatic speakers. Is that WD-40 top left in the tools pic but no Duct tape? 😜️
Gmail has once again blacklisted my mail server because of the SIX emails I have sent in the entirety of December so far, because obviously that constitutes "an unusual rate of unsolicited mail".
I set up SPF, DKIM, DMARC, first get lumped in with a bad /24 IP block, slowly build up a reputation as a non-spammy IP, etc. etc., but none of that matters.
This is nothing but a racketeering scheme to force everyone to pay for Gmail for business.
@siguza@Daojoan IIRC this was discussed on the postfix mailinglist (something like rate limit your outgoing emails to gmail). Adding DANE to your setup may help. And I even read this nugget: have a web page on the sending domain with real contact details.
What service do you use to #share a bunch of #photos with friends and family (avoiding the obvious mega services available)? I'm looking for something with a low barrier web interface (no account, private link access), download capability, and maybe self-deleting after a few days. Preferably #privacyrespecting and #opensource.
🆙 I’ve just put the Black Friday discounts live for my #Django and #Git books.
💸 All three are 50% discounted until the end of Cyber Monday, the 27th of November. This includes the team licenses and stacks with the regional discount.
I wonder what #ardour is doing different to #bitwig in terms of their #flatpak builds. I noticed that some #plugins run just fine in Ardour while Bitwig Studio reports problems with reading metadata or glibc version conflicts. 🙄️ #sandboxing#debugging#daw#linuxdaw
How many #plugins do you have installed on your system? 🫣️ I always remove the ones I do not use and currently sport the following numbers: #clap: 36 / #lv2: 22 / #vst2: 92 / #vst3: 104
If I subtract different variants of the same plug-in, I get 92 individual plug-ins. Feels like a lot to me! 😝️ #musicproduction#daw#inthebox#linux#macos#windows#linuxaudio
@amadeus I counted the vendor folders and got to 87 while each folder may contain more than one plugin (like Plugin Alliance). But I don't have them all installed anymore. Basically I use Algonaut, u-he, TAL, ModArtt, Auburn and a few others I like messing with.
@amadeus Yes and it's been working great. Anything that does not work is usually caused by external factors. Like the new Kontakt installer 2.x is some electron thing (luckily there's still a legacy one).
