Does anyone else use the Dual Display (Arranger/Mixer) setting in on a single monitor from time to time? I find it nice to have the mixer and device chain always visible (and context sensitive) while working on an arrangement, and to have the latter always visible as well. On a big enough screen at least, this can be a very comfortable approach for me.

I’m listening through the entries, and I think I’ve encountered the first one I will probably give one of my three votes to. But I don’t think I’ve made it even 1/4 of the way through the entries at this point and I’m not listening in order, in case anyone was curious.

That being said, if your song has a sustained, ringing resonant frequency in it that MAKES MY BAHA FEED BACK, it will seriously count against you. Sorry, but you literally physically hurt me and I don’t appreciate that. 😭 😫 :AAAAAA:

(Two songs have done this so far.)

This is a frame from the opening titles of The Incredible Hulk (2008), where some dramatic experiment is being performed in a university lab. They show all kinds of buttons being pushed, "danger" signs illuminating, etc.

And then there's this.

Folks, help me out here: This is just someone pushing mute or arm buttons on an audio mixing console, right? Those are clearly faders. Might even be stock footage. Can someone identify the brand and model?

You can actually mix down tracks without relying on dynamic processors.

Here's a tip: next time you're having trouble with a mix, ditch all the compressors and limiters on your bus or master track. Just focus on levels and EQ. Cut out any unnecessary peaks and frequencies right at the beginning with a track clipper and some low/high cuts.

By stripping away plugins, you limit your options, which helps you concentrate on what really matters.

In other news: I just had two great shows doing live sound for my friends ! And let me tell you, it's so nice when everything just works and everyone's having a great time.

Always nice to work on a mixing desk and not a tablet, which is a nightmare. And don't get me started on mixing with a smartphone 🤮

Anyway, check them out if you're curious and happen to like

Listening to some good, familiar music on headphones to kind of recalibrate my ears to what music sounds like on these, as it has been a while. Everything else I have has a lot more bass response, so it sounds thin at first.

For the record, the song that convinced me Something Is Fundamentally Wrong With This And It's Not Just You:

Because I know this album REALLY well and I know what it should sound like because I've heard it on dozens of stereos, headphones, car systems, etc. On CD, on tape, on MP3.

Speaking of reading and learning in and , not nearly enough people know about . It's a good magazine, with a lot of gear review but not JUST gear review. A lot of techniques and advice, and their books seem generally very good. I am a big fan of Mike Senior's / Secrets for the Small Studio books, for example. A lot of amazing content free online.

Worth checking out the magazine online or via your local library.

I was playing back my latest mix and thinking hmm, everything sounds so crisp and clean and...separated. Guess I'm gonna have to throw some more reverb on this to glue it all together!

And then I discovered I had turned off ALL THE REVERBS. 😂 😬 :catPOWER:
